课堂设计指导思想:
本节课是一节以阅读、讨论为主的活动课。Project是以阅读,语法,及Task的学习为基础,是语言学习从输入过渡到输出的必然结果。Project也是一种开放性研究学习活动,学生在完成背景材料阅读任务之后,在教师的指导下,通过小组协作明确选题,然后经过计划、准备、创作、呈现等一系列步骤完成活动任务。整个活动过程体现了自主学习、探究学习和合作学习。
Teaching aims:
Read two summaries of the science fiction stories.
Learn what a science fiction story is like and how to write a science fiction story.
Work together and make out a summary of a science fiction story.
Teaching procedures:
Step1 lead in
Watch a movie preview.
Ask them a question: do you know the name of the film?
It’s the journey to the center of the earth. The film is adapted from the science fiction written by Jules Verne.
Give the students some brief introduction about Jules Verne.
Questions: Do you know what science fiction is?
Can you share with us?
Answers
Science fiction is a type of writing based on fantasy and imagination. Science fiction writers often write about what will happen in ‘tomorrow’s world’.

Tell students that they will be introduced to two science fiction stories.

Read the first passage and then answer the following questions.

3. What do they see during their journey?

Ask the students to read the second passage. It’s written by H.G. Wells.
Introduce the writer briefly.
Answer the following questions after reading.

3.What is the world thirty million years into the future like?

1. He has invented a machine.
2. He finds two kinds of creatures—the Eloi and the Morlocks.
3.There was neither wind nor waves, and there seemed to be little life .

What elements make up a story?
Divide the class into two groups.
Each group should read one of the two stories again and find out the basic elements of each story.

The Time Traveller invented a time machine that can take him into the future. On his trip, he sees a lot of surprising and even frightening people and things.

Step5 practice
Let’s write our own science fiction!
Tips for writing:
Choose the topic—you can choose the topic that interest you, so that your imagination can be fully developed.
Decide the title, setting and the main characters and how many parts their story will have.
Draft the outline.
Divide the tasks among your group members.
Every one should participate in the group work.
Each one can write the different part.
Put them together and proofread the story.
Show an example
Complete your science fiction stories.

Step6 presentation
present your story to your classmates.

Step7 Evaluation
Ask students to discuss whose story is the best and why.

Step8 Comment
Make a brief comment on students work at the end of the activity.
在活动结束前,教师对学生作品作简要评价,评价要客观、中肯,着眼于激发学生学习的积极性和提高学生英语学习能力

Improve your science fiction stories and collect your works to make a pamphlet.
