Lesson objectives
(1)Knowledge:
①master the new words about animals, such as “camel”, “ant”, etc;
②grasp the new phrases appearing in this lesson, such as “be surprised to do”, “not... any more”,etc;
(2)Ability:
①use new words and expressions to talk about fun facts about animals and amazing people with others in English
②catch the main information when listening to dialogues
(3)Emotion:
①enrich students’ knowledge about animals
②help students realize the importance of believing in themselves and never give up

Student analysis
The students going to be taught are in Grade 7.They have already finished learning parts of this unit, which includes welcome to the unit, reading and grammar. It’s clear that the topic of this new lesson is easy for them to understand. However, asking students to grasp the listening materials about the amazing things is a little bit difficult, which indicates the necessity of designing more activities so that they can understand the listening materials in this lesson better. Multiple teaching methods and tools can be used to help students promote learning effect.

Step 1 Lead in 1.Show students a short video which is cut from a film called Zootopia. 2.Ask students a question after watching it: What animals can you see in the video Ss watch the video and tell the teacher the names of the animals appearing in the video To arouse students’ interest and lead to the topic of today’s lesson
Step 2 Presentation of names of animals 1.Brainstorm: Invite students to tell us some more animals in English. Meanwhile, show students some cartoon pictures of different animals on the PPT to help them if they don’t know what to say. Ss tell the teacher some other animals in English To activate the students with a simple question ,to practice their speaking and lead to today’s topic
2.Pre-listening: Show students pictures of two new kinds of animals. Let students see the pictures and learn the new words “camel, ant” and teach them something about these two kinds of animals at the same time. Ss learn the two new kinds of animals and the new words like “camel and ant” To remove the obstacles of new words before listening
3.While-listening: Play the tape of part A1 for the first time and let students answer the question after listening.Q:What animals are Mr Wu and Suzy talking about Ss listen to the tape and think about the question To use an easy question to help them have a basic understanding of the dialogue between Mr Wu and Suzy
4.While-listening: Play the tape of part A1 for students again and ask students to listen to the tape and finish Part A1. Ss listen to the tape again and and finish the exercises of Part A1 To practise the listening and to help students know the animals we are going to talk about in today’s lesson
Step 3 Presentation of fun facts about animals 1.Pre-listening: Have a free talk. Show students the pictures of elephants and goldfish. Ask them to tell me the names of these two animals and let them try to say some fun facts about them. Ss try to use the knowledge they learned in the first lesson of this unit to say some fun facts about elephants and goldfish To practise their speaking and lead to the next step
2.Pre-listening: Look and learn. Show students some more animals and tell them the fun facts about these animals with pictures.①Poison dart frogs are very small, sometimes less than 1.5 centimetres long.②Horses sleep standing up.③ Butterflies taste nectar with their feet.④Some goldfish can only remember things for three minutes. Ss look at the pictures and learn some more fun facts To arouse their interest and lead to the next step
3.Pre-listening: Show students the fun facts about animals on their books. Let students read the exercise in part A2 together. Ss read the listening material before listening To help them know the content of the listening material well so that they can do the listening in the next step better
4.While-listening: listen to the tape to fill in the blanks. Ss finish the exercises of Part A2 To practise their listening
5.Post-listening: guide students to change the exercises of part A2 into sentences. Ss change the listening exercises into sentences To consolidate their understanding of the listening material and to practice their speaking at the same time
6.Post-listening: use the information in Part A2 to finish the thank-you letter in Part A3. Ss finish the thank-you letter in Part A3 To consolidate students’ understanding of the listening material
7.Post-listening: teach students the language points in Part A3.①be surprised to do 惊讶做某事②not… any more 不再 Ss learn the language points in the letter To help students master the new expressions
Step 4 Speak up: Presentation of amazing people 1.Show students some wonderful pictures drawn by some amazing artists. And teach them some new words like “3-D, chalk, and at the same time” during this period. Ss enjoy the pictures and learn the new words To help students to remove obstacles of new words and lead to the topic of Speak up
2.The students are talking about amazing things in the world. Let’s listen and answer: How many amazing people are they talking about Ss listen to the tape for the first time To help them have a basic understanding of the dialogue
3.Listen to the tape again and do the choices designed for the dialogue. Ss listen to the tape for the second time To help students deepen their understanding of the dialogue
4.Let students read the dialogue in Speak up and then fill in the blanks. Ss read the dialogue and fill in the blanks To practice their speaking and have a full understanding of the dialogue
Step 5 Consolidation of fun facts about animals and amazing people 1.Ask students to work in pairs and use the model to talk about fun facts about animals and amazing people. Ss make their new dialogues To consolidate the key information in today’s lesson and practice students’ speaking
Step 6 Emotional sublimation 1.Present a video about Liuwei from the TV programme called China Talent Show, and let them think why Liuwei is amazing. Ss watch the video and know and think To let students know that the world is full of amazing things.Try your best like Liuwei and you can be amazing too.
