Teaching Design Process
Teaching material: 7B Unit 6 Outdoor Fun (Integrated skills)
Teaching aims:
1. To let the students know the history of kites and master the skills of listening and reading.
2. To develop their ability of talking about outdoor activities according to what they’ve learned.
3. To train the students’ team spirits and competitive awareness through the tasks designed.
Key points & difficulties:
1. Students can recognize and understand the words and expressions.
2. Students can get the main idea of the passage by listening.
3. Students can know the history of kites and talk about outdoor activities freely.
Teaching methods: task-based approach , motivation system
Teaching aids: PC , multi-media projector , fridge magnets , group cards

Warming-up (before class)

2. A short video “Flying a kite”.
Part One Presentation and Listening
1. Show some pictures of kites in different shapes.
“What does it look like ”
【IDEAS: Stimulate our students to have more interest in kites by showing them some wonderful pictures. Let them have a sense of the shapes of kites first to pave the way for the difficulties in A1.】
“Whose kite is it ”
2. Listen and complete Part A1.
[Task 1 Listen and write] (Tip: Just pay attention to the shapes.)
【IDEAS: Take the task-based approach and let them have a competition among groups throughout the whole class. Mobilize the students to get interested in class activities and help them strengthen their group consciousness.】
3. Introduce the four famous people involved by showing some pictures while teaching some new words.
【IDEAS: Lead them to study and think step by step. Add some knowledge of history during the course of studying English.】
[Task 2 Listen and match]
4. Match each person with the correct event in Part A2.

【IDEAS: Focus attention on the listening skill: finding some key words. Take different methods to develop students’ subjective initiative.】
[Task 3 Read , listen and complete]
5. Fill in some of the blanks in Part A3.
【IDEAS: Before listening again , students read the passage themselves and complete some of the blanks according to A2. We aim at guiding students to overcome some listening barriers.】
6. Listen to the whole passage again and fill in the rest blanks.
【IDEAS: Play the record and guide the students to speak out some difficulties. Give them some instructions about listening skills. Play part of it sentence by sentence when necessary. In the answering race , students can choose the one they are sure about. They can fill in the blanks in disorder. This step is designed to build their confidence , strengthen their competitive awareness and develop their ability of reaction.】
Part Two Reading
1. Show some words and expressions and then read them.
【IDEAS: Word and expressions are marked in red in the passage and then shown together. Various methods can be adopted in the reading course.】
[Vocabulary expansion]:(to teach one's granny how to suck eggs / to teach a fish how to swim)
【IDEAS: As for the idiom they’re quite familiar with, they can acquire a basic understanding of it.】
2. Consolidation: the history of kites
【IDEAS: Present the time expressions/different periods and put the corresponding pictures on the timeline to retell the history of kites.】

3. Scan the dialogue to fill in the blanks.
【IDEAS: It is designed to train their ability of reading comprehension.】
4. Read the dialogue aloud in different ways.
Part Three Speaking
[Task 5 Discuss in groups.]
1. Discuss: “If we are going to have a picnic , what can we do What can’t we do ” What do we need to take
【IDEAS: It is designed to develop their thinking and build their team spirits by this means.】
2. List some aspects as hints for students to make up new dialogues.

[If time is limited , students can act out their dialogues after class.]
【IDEAS: We can stimulate students’ imagination. Besides , some sentence structures they’ve learnt can be practiced in this way. Remind students to pay attention to the health and safety in real life.】
3. Play a game: Ask & Answer
【IDEAS: The game is designed to review what they have learnt and to train and test their abilities of speaking and using the knowledge.】
Summary
【IDEAS: Inspire the affective education into our students. Remember to see which group is the most outstanding and give them clapping as encouragement. Students can be immersed in the encouragement and the pleasure they feel.】
