In 2005, Guangrui Zhang, one of the volunteers of World Animal Protection, was sent to Zimbabwe(津巴布韦) to carry out a project of stopping elephants poaching (盗猎) in Manas National Park. Everyday Zhang checked elephants in the park around by car, watched them by UAV(无人机). Besides, he built a network, it recorded the movements of elephants and would-be killers, so he could stop or catch them. What's more, Zhang taught the local children they should care for nature. He hoped more people could join and fight this war.
It seems cool to work on protecting wild elephants, but it is also full of danger. In 2017, one of Zhang’s workmates was killed by accident. Zhang was very sad for losing his partner. However, because of this, Zhang became more determined to stay there and continues his work. “ Just imagine the picture that all the wild elephants can live here safely, all my hard work is worthy.” Zhang smiled and looked forward to a brighter future.

Mary's diary
Tuesday April 2, 2019
Today, I have taken part in Birds-loving Corner. It was interesting and educational.
In Birds-loving Corner, I have known many kinds of wild birds, they are so beautiful and they are symbols for people's best wishes. Birds play an important role in maintaining the balance of nature. However, some of them face with the danger of being extinct(灭绝).
It was a meaningful activity and I have learnt a lot from it. Our teachers always teach us to protect endangered animals. However, as a student, I don't think I can do much to protect animals because we don't have enough time, money and energy. We should focus our attention on study. So taking part in activities like this in schools may be the best choice for us. It's necessary to develop the awareness of animal protection now, but maybe I will put them into practice in the future.

An Appeal(请求)for Animal Protection
Dear sir or madam,
My name is Li Hua, a student from Chongqing,China. I'm writing to apply for working as the spokesman(代言人) for endangered animals. I hope to do something for endangered animals.
Many people may realize the importance of protecting endangered animals, but few of them has put into practice. As for me, wherever I go and whatever I do,I usually keep it in my mind. When I went travelling in Thailand, I refused to ride the elephant. I will never buy, use or keep the source of endangered animals. Furthermore, I went to many schools to show and teach them about protection of endangered animals. I stopped people from buying and wearing fur(皮草) in the street and reported(举报) people who ate wild birds, turtles and snakes in the restaurants. Sometimes, those people hated me and didn't agree on my actions. Even though it may get me in great trouble, I never give up. What I want to do is to call on more people to care for endangered animals by behaviors in their daily lives.
I would appreciate it if my application could get your approval(赞成).

Jimeng Xu was the champion of The Best Image Ambassador Of Fur(皮草形象大使) in the Mall of Northern China and she was given a more than 80,000-yuan sable fur coat (紫貂大衣)as a prize. Xu was so excited and she put on the fur coat immediately.
When people told her the fur coat was made of the fur of endangered animals, Xu appeared to be cold and quiet. “ I know sables are rare animals(珍稀动物) in China and it is cruel to kill them for their fur, but every year thousands of fur clothes has been made and on sale in shops, they will be bought by many people. I am not the one who killed them and I shouldn’t be blamed(责备). What’s more, many other things are made of the body tissues(身体组织) of rare animals. For example, Ivory(象牙) can be made into ornaments (装饰品)to make houses more beautiful. Some rare animals are valuable Chinese medicine to cure(治疗) serious diseases.”
