Study skills
I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
know how to pronounce the consonants: /p/ /b/ /t/ /d/ /k/ /ɡ/ /h/ /m/ /n/ / //l/ /r/ /j/ /w/;
know how to write them correctly.
II. Teaching contents

IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Presentation
1. Listen and try to imitate the sounds
T: Today we’ll go on to learn phonetic symbols, 14 consonants.
T: Do you know how to pronounce the sounds correctly Please imitate and read. /p/ /b/ /t/ /d/ /k/ /ɡ/ /m/ /n/ / / /l/ /r/ /h/ /j/ /w/
T: Now let’s read the 14 consonants together.
Maybe you are not sure of the sounds of some consonants, let’s learn them in detail.
2. Learn how to pronounce the 14 consonants and learn more about them.
A: /p/ /t/ /k/ /b/ /d/ /g/
First let’s read these words people, cap, tea, sit, key, cake
The first two contain /p/ the middle two contain /t/ the last two contain /k/
Read buy, club, day, under, glass, egg
The first two contain /b/ the middle two contain /d/ the last two contain /g/
Now please read them while putting your fingers on your throats and feel the difference. When you read /p/ /t/ /k/ , you can’t feel movement, when you read /b/ /d/ /g/, your throat is vibrating. So /p/ /t/ /k/ are voiceless consonants /b/ /d/ /g/ are voiced consonants. Here are three pairs of the voiceless and voiced consonants.
B: /m/ /n/ / /

Let’s look at the instructions in Chinese. Please read them in Chinese.
[m]双唇紧闭,舌头平放,气流从鼻腔送出,声带振动。
[n]双唇微开,舌尖抵上齿龈,气流从鼻孔里出来,声带振动。
[ ]双唇张开,舌尖抵上齿龈,气流从鼻腔送出,声带振动。
These three sounds are from our nose, so we call /m/ /n/ / / nasals
Now I’ll say some more things about [n] [ ]
Pay attention! The letter “n” usually is pronounced /n/, but when the letter n is before k, or ng comes together, we say / /. Let’s say the sentence and feel the two sounds. “Thank you. We can sing the English song.”
Try to chant them clearly, pay attention to /m/ /n/ / /
/m/ /m/ Good morning mum!
/n/ /n/ Good afternoon Ben!
/ / / / Good evening darling!
C: /j/ /w/ /h/ /l/ /r/
Go on to read yellow young , here the letter y is pronounced /j/ , Listen, the letter y is pronounced /j/, not the letter j. worker when the letter w is pronounced /w/

/j/ /w/ are half vowels. /h/ /l/ /r/ are like the sounds in pinyin. So we call them 似拼音
Let’s pay attention to /l/
/l/ 在音节首、元音之前的发音就是普通的齿龈边音 [l],即汉语拼音的 l 。
而/l/ 在音节末或辅音之前,则要发成软腭化齿龈边音 [ ],具体来讲,发 [ ] 时,舌后上抬,舌根接近软腭(velar['vi l ]),气流从舌头旁边的间隙中流出。
At the beginning of the word or before the vowels, it is clear [l].
At the end of the word or before the consonants, it is dark [ ]

【设计意图】通过分组学习的形式让学生了解辅音的同步类别,重点讲解几个难读、易错的音标,通过有针对的练习进行巩固。
Step 2 Practice
1. Let’s read the words
T: Let’s read the words in the table on P39. And get more familiar with the voiceless and voiced consonants.
2. Let’s dictate the words
T: Now it’s time for you to do some dictation. I will read some words and you should write
them down on your paper. (big, pig, call, tall, aunt, and, light, night, nice, rice, them, then)
3. Let’s write the words
T: Look at the screen. Say the sounds and try to write down what words make the sounds.

T: Open your books to P39. All the words we wrote down are in Part A. Please check your answers.
4.Let’s chant.
Just now, we had a check. Somebody is right and somebody is wrong. Now let’s have fun.
Right and wrong,

they are brothers.
You are right,
so he is wrong.
He is right,
so you are wrong.
We want to be right,
We don't want to be wrong,
so we must learn
again and again!
5. Let’s make up new words
T: Here are five groups of leaves. Can you put a letter in each box to get different words
【设计意图】利用课本内容,要求学生朗读单词,加强对这些辅音的印象。通过听音写学过的单词,检查学生对本课中相近音标的区分。再通过看音标朗读,写学过的单词,既复习了前面两个单元的元音音标,又检查了新知识的具体使用情况。
Step 3 Consolidation
1. Let’s read and make sentences
T: We have some words and phrases here. Would you please read them and pay attention to the sounds of the blue letters
T: Now I need you to put these words and phrases into five sentences and read them.
2. Let’s read a poem and draw a picture according to the content of the poem.
T: This is a poem about the moon.
The moon is light.
The moon is gold.
The moon is like a boat.
I want to sit in it.
The moon is like a banana.
I want to eat it.
The moon is like Mum’s smile.
I want to kiss her.
T: Is the poem beautiful Can you draw a picture about the poem

3. Try to recite.
【设计意图】利用书中本课时的练习,继续巩固本课14个辅音。在此基础上,让学生尝试朗读新的诗歌,背诵美文等方式复习所学音标知识,挑战自我,实现自主学习,收获成功喜悦。
