From the age of 6, Samirah Horton was bullied (欺凌) by her classmates for the things that made her different — her size and her sharp voice. Rather than giving up, Horton decided to pick up a microphone and make sure other children knew they weren’t
alone. “I didn’t want other kids to go through that experience,” says Horton, “especially
at a very young age.” Now, alongside attending eighth grade classes, she’s also building an anti-bullying platform to reach students across the country.
For as long as Horton remembers, she's felt a special connection to music. She
remembers her mother always having the radio on, and her father teaching her how to
deejay (主持) . Music gives her unlimited power to do the duty. “It’s music that fuels my mission, allowing me to spread this important message,”she says. Now as the Kid DJ for her hometown team, you can hear anything from the hip-hop classics to songs of her own, including the anti-bullying song “No You Won’t Bully Me”.
Her message has reached beyond the DJ set. At 8. Horton turned one of her songs
into a 26-page picture book, which has reached thousands of people across America. In the book, she references the over 160,000 students who miss school daily for fear of being bullied.
Horton isn’t sure exactly what the future holds, but for now, she’s positive about leading her school’s student government. “I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing, but I know I’ll be making a positive influence on the world,” she says. She’s already on her way, but her biggest achievement in her own eyes is persuading others not to doubt themselves along the way. “Don’t care what anybody tells you,” she says. “You are never too young to make a change.”
Why was Horton bullied

C. Because of her grades. D. Because of her hobby.

A. A Picture-Book Writer B. A Hip-Hop Music Lover
C. An Environmental Activist D. An Anti-Bullying Advocate

Nobody ever imagined that after being lost for more than half a century, the intangible cultural heritage known as Gaolou Mixian would be restored and passed on by a young man. “As a descendant of people from Gaolou village, I have a responsibility to restore our ancestors’ art forms,” Chen Guorui, the world’s only inheritor (继承人) of this ancient art, told the Global Times.
Gaolou Mixian uses rice paste to stick together selected grains of transparent rice to create realistic figures or structures. It is a unique folk art that developed during the Qing
Dynasty and reached its peak during the first half of the 20th century. Each household in
Gaolou village would make rice structures that they put on display in their ancestral halls during the Chinese New Year, which attracted people from all sides.
However, due to the wet weather in southern China, these rice-made artworks would
only last three to four months before losing their shape. It is for this reason that these
works are not seen in museums in China. Due to various historical reasons, most people in Gaolou village did not pass down the art form, which caused it to disappear nearly 70 years ago.
Chen found out about this after hearing one former resident express disappointment
about its loss. Curious, he started to do research and tried out the methods he heard about
from older people in the village. After several months of exploration, Chen finally completed his first successful work.
Over the past five years, Chen has gradually improved his skills and even begun
using new techniques, such as creating some colorful artworks with colored grains of rice. Since 2017, people at home and abroad have taken an interest in this long-lost art form. To avoid being the last inheritor, Chen has been giving classes to some students at a primary school in Fuzhou with the support of local education authorities.
What do we know about Gaolou Mixian
A. It uses rice as its main material. B. It is stable in a wet environment.
C. It is a popular art form nationwide. D. It was created for religious reasons.
What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 4 refer to
The charm of the artworks.
The disappearance of the art form.
The disappointment of the villagers.
The reason why the artworks lose their shape.
Which of the following can best describe Chen Guorui
A. Courageous and cautious. B. Responsible and calm.
C. Cooperative and caring. D. Determined and creative.
What is the purpose of the text
To praise Chen Guorui for his successful works.
To describe a popular folk art of a Chinese village.
To introduce a Chinese art form and its restoration.
To advocate the restoration of intangible cultural heritage.
D
Nearly two years after the COVID-19 outbreak, China has granted approval to its first antibody combination therapy (治疗) for COVID-19 treatment, adding a tool to the world’s fight against the disease.
A team from Tsinghua University, along with the Shenzhen People’s Hospital, has
accomplished the task in 20 months. It would usually take 10 years. “It can reduce the rate of hospitalization (住院治疗) and death by 80 percent,” said Zhang Linqi, leader of the research team.
The new antibody drug is immediately effective after being used. Moreover, the
therapy can protect people, especially those whose physical condition doesn’t allow vaccination (接种疫苗), from becoming infected by COVID-19 for around 9 to 12 months, said Zhang.
How does it work When a virus infects a cell, it relies on an important type of
protein: the spike proteins (棘突蛋白) on its surface. The spike proteins serve as a key to unlocking a cell. If a virus cannot enter a cell, it will disappear immediately. The job of our antibodies is to block the virus from entering cells. So its target is very precise. In addition, thanks to the coordination between the two antibodies, it is highly efficient in preventing the virus, according to Zhang. The qualities of the new drug make it especially useful for high-risk groups, such as frontline medical workers and people not suitable for vaccination due to various underlying health problems.
The new drug is expected to come to the market soon, but it’s not cheap. That’s
because of limited production. Noting that China has used science and technology to
fight COVID-19 since the beginning of the outbreak, Zhang said, “Science is the key to solving the issue. Science has shown its power in all sectors, from medical treatment, medicine and vaccine development to prevention and control measures.”
What can we know about the new drug according to paragraph 1 and paragraph 2
It’s the only way to treat COVID-19.
It dramatically improves the survival rate of patients.
It takes researchers 10 years to develop the new drug.
It was developed by the team from one of China’s top universities.
Which statement does the author probably agree with
Only medical workers can take this drug.
Antibodies stop spike proteins entering a cell.
The new medicine takes effect after a period of use.
The new drug can protect people from infection for life.
Who are most suited for the drug according to paragraph 4
A. Doctors and nurses. B. The elderly and children.
C. People with vaccination. D. Patients and their family members.
What can be inferred from the last paragraph
The drug will be readily available.
The new drug has been put into use.
Zhang was full of praise for the power of science.
China is the first country to use technology to fight disease.

Students of all ages might have more on their minds now than ever before — from work, to school to all of the other distractions (分心的事物) pulling at them. So how can they be expected to concentrate, focus and memorize the educational materials they have in front of them each night ____36____ But fortunately, here are some tips on how you can maximize your memory, focus and concentration.
37 Seems like a no-brainer, but keeping an extra piece of paper nearby when
you are in class or at home will allow you to keep a note of what you just learned. By transforming those moments into your own, they will have more meaning to you.
Review regularly. Just think about how much information you look at or listen to in a
typical day. That’s why you need to give yourself a daily time set aside just for reviewing. ____38____
Don’t multitask. If you are on the computer or have your phone nearby, you may try
to multitask. In addition to doing your work, you may want to send emails, update your Facebook page or look at other websites. DON’T! ____39____ And complete your study in a shorter amount of time with longer lasting results.
Chop up for memory. 40 It’s logical that a smaller piece of knowledge
is easier to remember than a large block of information.
It’s really difficult.
Write more things down.
Put your focus on the one thing you are studying.
Understand the information so that you can remember it in a shorter time.
Another way to help your memory is to break information into smaller pieces.
Keep your tasks at hand and memorize some key information whenever you have free time.
You can take 10 to 15 minutes to look over your notes and any material that you were
given.

书面表达 参考范文
Dear Tom,
It’s very nice to hear from you. How are you getting on I am glad to know that you become interested in Chinese music recently. Now I’d like to share my feelings and ideas about music with you.
As we all know, music plays an important part in our life and there are all kinds of music in the world such as classical music, pop music, rock music and so on. As far as I am concerned, I am crazy about pop music, because it can make me feel relaxed and cheer me up when I feel depressed or sad. It can help me reduce stress in life and offer relief from busy daily life.
I often enjoy listening to music on CD or on the radio at home. It’s a pity that we are not allowed to listen to music at school. If you can come to China, I’ll accompany you to go to some live concerts. Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
