The kettle (水壶) in the kitchen starts to hiss (嘶嘶作响). Water boils and begins to steam (冒水汽). You take the kettle and place it on the table, which is decorated with colourful and fancy fresh cakes. It is teatime, British style!
This scene has been connected to British culture for centuries. Tea events like this started among rich people in the 19th century. It was to bridge the gap between lunch and dinner. Different versions—also cheaper versions—then began to spring up through the middle class and working class of Britain.
It became so popular with the working class that high tea became their main meal of the day. Northern England is
traditionally a more working class region（地区） than the south. Even today, when northerners sit down to eat between 5~7 pm, they call it tea. While southerners call it dinner.
However, in modern times, afternoon tea is not a common event. Tea parties with cakes in every home is a picture of past Britain. But Britains' love of tea has never been stronger. It's so tied to its culture that tea lovers may have five to six cups each day. Yet fancy tea parties have become special events, usually held in hotels for tourists.

Nowadays, more and more Chinese people invite their friends and family to Western meals. But is the Western meal more delicious than the Chinese meal
It is true that the Western meal appears more elegant than the Chinese meal. But I don't think we should give up Chinese food.

First, Chinese food has deep and rich culture. Second, it is full of nutrition and has a good taste, and it looks good as well. There is only one problem： everyone uses their own chopsticks to take food from a bowl or a plate during a Chinese meal. It doesn't seem to be clean and polite.
However, as Chinese, I think we should keep our food culture. Being clean is not that hard. Western food gives people good atmosphere, but it doesn't taste delicious enough.

For one thing, Chinese food is healthier than Western Food. For another, Chinese food gives us more choices and it has more tastes than Western food. 一方面, 中餐比西餐更健康。另一方面, 比起西餐, 中餐给予我们更多选择, 味道也更丰富。
