instead of 意为“代替……;而不……”,后加名词、代词、动名词、介词短语等作宾语。
instead adv. 意为“代替;顶替”,一般放在句末,如果位于句首常用逗号与后面句子隔开。

例句:
1) The majority of the students hold the view that it's convenient to go school by electric bike.
2) After all, those who are against the project are in the majority.
3) On the other hand, a majority of students are opposed to it.
majority 的用法:
1) the/a majority of 大多数的……
in the majority 占多数
a minority of 少数的……
2) “the majority of +名词” 用作主语时,谓语动词与名词保持一 致。“the majority of +复数名词” 用作主语时,谓语动词用复数;“the majority of +不可数名词” 用作主语时,谓语动词用单数。

respond的用法:
1) respond to sb./sth. 意为“回答;回复;响应”
例句:They are sure to respond positively to the Chairman's request for aid.
2) respond with sth. 意为“反击”
例句:The amy responded with gunfire.
3) response n. 意为“回答;回复;响应”
词语搭配:
correct response 正确的回复 written response书面的回应
negative response 消极的回应 positive response积极的回应
stay single 意为“保持单身”,此结构“动词+形容词”表示保持某种状态。相同用法:keep healthy, go bad, stay strong ...
例句:
1) We must take more exercises to keep healthy.
2) Stay hungry, stay foolish.
3) All the world says “stay strong” to Wuhan.

appoint 的用法:
1) appoint sb. as/to be ... 任命某人为……
例句: His high achool coach appointed him as/to be manager of the team. 他所在中学的教练任命他为球队领队。

例句:The goverment appointed a special investigator to deal with the tough case. 政府指派了一位特殊调查员来处理这个棘手的状况。
