二、(2020●山东潍坊潍城区期末)完形填空
Last year, I went to Belgium from the UK to teach English. It was interesting and I 1 that there are some big differences in schools between Belgium and the UK.
In the UK, students 2 wear school uniform(校服). I think it's good. This is why. If students all wear the same clothes, they will feel less excluded(被排斥的)because everyone 3 the same. Also it is nice to wear school uniform because you don't have to 4 what to wear in the morning. This saves a lot of time. 5 , the students in Belgium don't wear school uniform.
Another difference I found is also about 6 . Teachers dress in a more relaxed way in Belgium. They wear jeans and sports shoes, for example. In the UK, 7 always dress much more formally(正式地)to work in a school.
As I worked with older students aged from 16 to 18. I 8 noticed that they had a lot more subjects than I did at their age. In the UK, at 16 you enter the "sixth form" and you have to 9 only three to four subjects. Some people like this. But others feel that it is too 10 to make such a big choice, because the subjects you choose will have an impact(影响)on what you can study at university.

If you go to a different country, you may get to know a different way of life. Here are stories of three young people when they first went to the US.
John: I still remember when I first went to the US three years ago, everything was new to me. When I met my host mum at the airport, she asked, "Do you want to go to the bathroom " I was not sure what she was asking. Eric: Before I went to the US, I thought that everything in the US was large-tall people, big meals and large clothes. When I first got to my school, I was surprised by the size of the school-there was only one building with three floors. And there were fewer than 500 students in the school. However, in the small dormitory, in the small school, I made good friends with my roommate and my classmates.
Linda: Every country has different cultures. I, a girl from Thailand, didn't know much about American culture. All I knew was from books and movies. China covers large areas and has a great population. Different living habits have always been an interesting topic in the country. Recently, another difference between southern Chinese and northern Chinese became a hot one: the way people shop at markets.
People from southern China say that they always buy what they need for just one or two meals. It is normal for them to buy half of a Chinese cabbage, two potatoes and 0.25 kilograms of beef at a time.
However, one may be laughed at if he does this in the north. Instead, buying enough vegetables and meat for a week is usual. Also, you can buy a small amount(数量)of fruits such as a single apple or pear, each time in the south. Shop owners even help you peel and cut them. But shop owners in the north hardly offer such service. And many fruits are sold in baskets and boxes.
The difference could be due to the different weather.
Food can be kept for a long time in the north, as it is usually cold and dry there. Many northern Chinese have the habit of storing food, especially for the long winter. But the hot and wet weather in the south makes southern Chinese buy just enough food for one meal or one day, or else the food may go bad.

D. they live far away from markets
14. The underlined words "due to" mean "_____ " in Chinese.
A. 所以 B. 但是 C. 然而 D. 因为
15. Which is the best title for the passage

D. Southern China and Northern China

Dear Jack,
I'm very glad to hear that you' re coming to China for a short stay. I wish you a good time with the help of my advice.
When you visit a Chinese family, it's a good idea to bring a small gift like fruits and flowers. Usually Chinese people will give you a present in return. If so, you must accept it with both hands. Remember not to open it immediately. During the Spring Festival, try not to break anything. If you do, say "suisuiping' an" which means "be safe all the time". And you can also greet your friends by saying nice words like "gongxifacai". Besides, don't clean the room on the first day of Chinese New Year. We think it will sweep away good luck.
I hope what I say can help you. Enjoy your stay!
Yours,
Li Hua
