Teaching Plan of Unit 1, Book 11
Part A
Language focus:
I was short.
Last year, I was 138 cm tall and I was 29 kg.
I was light.
Additional language:
I like to exercise.
Bob didn’t like to exercise.
Candy exercised a lot.
I didn’t exercise very often.
Steps:
Introduce vocabulary:
Use a ruler to teach the word “cm”.
Ask the students to measure their books, desks etc.
Let the students weigh their books, bags with a scale and learn “kg”. Then learn “light” and “heavy”
To mime and explain “strong” and “weak”.
To act and learn “fast” and “slow”.
Read the words after me.
Answer my questions. Let’s talk about my appearance.
Am I old / young / tall / short / light / heavy / strong / weak / fast / slow?
T: I am young. I’m tall. I’m light. I’m strong. I’m fast….
Let the students describe themselves in pairs then make some of them show their descriptions.
Show a picture of mine. Then I make a model to describe myself.
Look at the photos from last year. I was….
Let the students talk about other people.
Do a survey:
How were you last year?

Part B1
Task objective: To use comparatives to describe a person about how he’s different from before.
Steps:
Warm up: 1. Sing a song.
2. Everyday English.
二、Revision: Talk about yourself when you were small.
三、Presentation:
1. Help me complete a survey:
How tall are you?
How tall were you last year?
★ You’re taller this year.
How heavy are you?
How heavy were you last year?
★ You’re heavier this year.
2. Tell the students that the comparatives are used when we talk about an increase or decrease in size, quality, degree etc.
3. Explain how to form the comparative forms to the words.
4. Do some exercise.
5. The students are doing their fitness tests. Let’s see the result.

6. Learn the words “lift…weight, do…pull-ups” through the pictures.
7. Complete the sentences in the book.

Task objective: 1. To make a report about someone’s fitness tests.
2. Learn to compare two objects or persons.
一、Warm up: 1. Sing a song.
2. Everyday English.
二、Revision: Show some pictures and let the students talk about them, using the sentences “She’s taller this year… ”
三、Presentation:
1. Ask a student to come out and stand behind me. Tell the students: I’m taller than XX.
2. Explain that when we compare the size, quality, degree etc. of two people, animals or things, we need to add “than” after the adjective.
3. Ask the students to come out two by two and compare their height, weigh etc.
4. Do a survey:

Steps:
一、Warm up: 1. Sing a song.

二、Revision: Let two students come out and others tall the differences between them.
三、Presentation:
1. Play the VCD and try to catch the meaning of the story, then learn the key words and phrases.
2. The teacher tell the story again. But try to get the students remember what will happen next.
3. Let the students try to retell the story picture by picture.
4. Fill in the blanks about the story.
5. Play the VCD again.
6. Complete the exercise of Part D.

1. Listen to the tape.
2. Tell the story to your parents.
3. Try to recite the story.
Part E, Part F & Part H
Task objective: 1. To grasp the sounds /s/, /z/, /iz/ well.
2. Learn to give others advice according to their fitness tests.
Steps:
Warm up: 1. Sing a song.
2. Everyday English.
二、Revision: Tell us what’s your difference from last year.
三、Presentation:
1. Look at the forms and complete the blanks.
2. Find a partner and talk about one of the forms.
3. Imagine that you are the PE teacher. Choose a pair of students and write a report.
4. Learn the sounds /s/, /z/ and /iz/ and tell them the regular rule about the phonetics.
5. Let the students say some words that pronounce the sounds.
6. Play the VCD and learn the rhyme.
7. Learn Part H. Tell the students that “meters” and “inch” are both used to measure the length or the height. But they can be exchanged.
四、Homework: Write a report about yourself like the fourth step in Part F.
Part I
