—What is it 它是什么?
—It is a rabbit. 它是一只兔子。
问句时一个由what引导的特殊疑问句,用于询问近处是何物。当我们不认识近处 的某物或不知道它的名字时,就可以用这句话来询问。答语通常是“It’s a/an …它是……”。
句型结构:What is + it/this
回答: It’s a/an +某物.
e.g. —What is it —It’s a cat.

Its mouth is small. 它的嘴巴很小。
该句型用于描述动物的特征。当its后面跟单数的身体部位名词时,be动词用is;当its后面跟成对的身体部位名词时,be动词用are。
句型结构:Its + 身体部位名词+ be动词 + 形容词.
e.g. Its nose is long.

Its意为“它的”。Its 修饰名词作主语时,谓语动词的形式取决于后面的名词,而不取决于its。

【辨析】its 和 it’s 的区别:
its 和 it’s 虽然只差一个’, 而且读音相同,但意义不同:
its 是形容词性物主代词,意为“它的”。
e.g. Its ears are short.
it’s 是 it is 的缩写形式,it 是代词主格。
e.g. It’s a cat.
