Plastic snow falls from the sky.
When you think of the Arctic(北冰洋), you may imagine an icy land of white snow. And some people may imagine it as the last really clean place left on Earth. In fact, we have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish, and now, CNN says, "It's the Arctic's turn."
German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1,800 pieces of microplastics per liter(升) of snow. That may cause terrible air pollution.
How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic According to scientists, "It's clear that most of the microplastics in the snow come from the air. They fall off plastic objects and are moved by the wind. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow."
Are they bad for us We do know that our bodies cannot take in "large" pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health.
Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, damaging ecosystems(生态环境) along the way. When we wash clothes with plastic fibers(纤维), they start in our wastewater. The wastewater then flows into rivers and out to sea. They are eaten by sea animals there. If people then eat these animals, it means that we're eating the plastic as well.

Going green seems to be a fashion for a lot of people these days. Whether that is good or bad, we can’t really say, but for the two of us, going green is not a fashion but a lifestyle.
On April 22nd, 2011, we decided to go green every single day for the whole year. This meant doing 365 different green things, and it also meant challenging ourselves to go green beyond easy things. Rather than recycle and reduce our energy, we had to think of 365 different green things to do and this was no easy task.
With the idea of going green every single day for a year. Our Green Year started. My wife and I decided to educate people about how they could go green in their lives and hoped we could show people all the green things that could be done to help the environment. We wanted to push the message that every little bit helps.
Over the course of our Green Year, we completely changed our lifestyle. We now shop at organic(有机的) stores. We eat less meat, choosing green food. We have greatly reduced our buying what we don’t need. We have given away half of what we owned through websites. Our home is kept clean by vinegar and lemon juice, with no chemical cleaners. We make our own butter, enjoying the smell of home-made flesh bread. In our home office anyone caught doing something ungreen might be punished.
Our minds have been changed by Our Green Year. We are grateful for the chance to have been able to go green and educate others. We believe that we do have the power to change things and help our planet.

We usually think that garbage is useless and dirty. However, an art exhibition in 2019 proves that”useless” things can actually be helpful.
Dear Pretty Rubbish, an art event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFN) and digital media art company Blackbow, was held in Beijing. It looked at wasteful garbage and asked questions about the relationship between our lifestyles and our garbage.
“We hope that everyone who visited the show can think about how ‘useless things’ are produced, why they are tossed out, and whether ‘useless things’ are really useless”, said Cao Yujia, the design director at Blackbow.
Artists Zhou Yuxuan and Liu Yifan collected nylon cable ties, LED lights and plastic bottles from designers’ workshops to create a work where plastics, in the shape of cells, “grow” in a comer. There, the lights blink(闪烁) regularly just like “breathing”. When people walk near it, the work responds by showing light patterns, as if communicating with the visitors.
Speaking about the work, Zhou said: “It’s like some kind of communication between humans and plastics.”
Plastic has a life longer than almost any creature, taking centuries to break down. Though people think plastics damage the environment, they are a big part of our daily lives. “So we want to ask the question: Although the damage continues, is there a way for humans to reconcile (和解) with plastics ” said Zhou.

58.例文:
How to Protect the Environment
Pollution problems are becoming more and more serious now. And it has caused a lot of problems. President Xi says that mountains of green water is equal to mountains of gold and silver. So people have realized that it is necessary for us to protect our environment. But how can we do it
To help with the environment, I think we can walk or ride bikes to school instead of taking cars. Besides, we can also try to use things that can be recycled. For example, if we go shopping, we can use cloth bags instead of plastic ones. Planting more trees is another way to protect our environment. At the same time, we must take action to stop people from cutting down trees.
I think that as long as we pull together, our world will be more beautiful.
