一、单元总体解读
本单元的主题是festivals and celebrations,属于“人与社会”主题语境下的“不同民族文化习俗与传统节日”。主题语境不仅规约着语言知识和文化知识的学习范围,还为语言学习提供意义语境,并有机渗透情感、态度和价值观。因而,本单元教与学的核心任务就是对“传统节日和不同民族文化习俗”进行探究,引领学生在语言能力、学习能力、文化意识和思维品质方面的融合发展。

此外,学生能够掌握语法V-ing的基本用法。能够理解V-ing用作定语和表语时的功能及意义,能正确运用V-ing形式描述与节日庆典相关的活动感受。
再者,从语篇角度,能够阅读以“我们为何庆祝节日”为主题的论说文,梳理论说文的语篇结构和文本逻辑,了解节日风俗习惯的发展与变迁,感悟节日的内涵与意义。能够阅读有关“那达慕大会”的日记,掌握节日见闻的内容要素及文本语言特点。能够掌握与节日相关的其他语篇体裁(如:节日简介等)的内容要素和语言特点。
最后,表达方面,学生能够客观介绍节日时间、习俗和意义,能够在描述节日经历时准确表达自己的情绪,包括兴奋、高兴、厌烦、失望等,能够写一篇有关节日经历的记叙文。
在学习能力方面,学生能够根据说话人的表达方式和表达内容判断对话双方的人物关系。能够正确识别文章中的主题句,抓住段落大意。能够归纳和积累用于表达情绪的相关词汇,包括V-ing形式和过去分词。
在文化意识方面,学生能够了解不同文化背景下形成的不同民族的节日、风俗习惯及其内涵和意义,挖掘这些节日所体现的人类共同的愿望和心理诉求。能够有意识地积累与节日的由来、典故、习俗相关的语言表达,树立文化自信,为传播中华优秀传统文化做好思想上、语言上和行动上的准备。
在思维品质方面,能够根据节日类型梳理世界各地不同节日的文化信息,包括名称、起源、庆典活动、特色食物等;能够归纳和概括节日文化所体现的全人类共同的生活追求与心理期望;能够深入探讨和反思社会的发展变化对传统节日的影响。

三、Learning about language课型分析
(一)学情分析
我校学生总体基础薄弱,在学习习惯、学习能力、知识储备等方面相对较弱,需要更多的支架搭建和帮助。不过经过高一阶段的训练,我班学生已基本习惯词汇量大、阅读语篇长等教材特征,并树立较为正确的学习观,会听取教师建议,学习态度总体不错。
此外,学生在初三阶段通过单元主题 “public holidays”的学习,对节日介绍有一定的了解。 在本单元的学习中,学生通过听说课已对节日活动介绍有一定的了解和话题词汇的积累。通过阅读一、二课时的学习,了解了不同国家、不同民族的节日文化和它的发展变化,及节日的精神内涵,并熟悉了相应的节日话题词汇,对节日主题的学习兴趣浓厚。因而,在此基础上,教师设置基于单元“节日介绍”的主题语境,引导学生从阅读文本中提炼语言、运用语言,在本课中落实目标词汇,并为本单元的写作教学做铺垫。
(二)教学目标
1、学生能够从阅读文本中提炼介绍节日时间、目的、庆祝方式和意义的目标词块和句型,并通过描述三个节日时间和目的、翻译句子来运用目标词块和句型。
2、学生能够当堂运用目标词块和句型来描述春节的庆祝方式和意义,并通过介绍某一中国传统节日的课后作业来迁移运用本课目标词块和句型。
(三)教学思路
首先,学生根据框架结构图来复述the harvest festival,体会节日介绍的“内容维度”和“语言基础”。之后,教师引导学生关注到节日介绍的时间、目的、庆祝方式和意义的内容维度和语言维度,指导学生从阅读文本中提取表达节日介绍的时间和目的的词块和句型,并通过对“教师节”、“端午节”、“春节”的时间和目的介绍来掌握对应的词块和句型。接着,布置任务,让学生从阅读文本中找出表达节日庆祝方式和意义的词块和句型,并通过句子翻译来练习巩固。最后,教师引导学生观察介绍信,运用本课所学词块和句型补全对节日庆祝方式和意义的介绍,并通过自我评价单进行反馈。
(四)教学步骤
Step One: Feedback to the homework
Ask one student to retell something about the harvest festival according to the given structure. And then guide students to find the main four aspects of introducing a festival: time, purpose, celebrations, meaning. After that, show the aim of this class: Learn proper language from the passage to express the time, purpose, celebrations and meaning of a festival.
【设计意图】:抽测学生上节课口头作业完成情况,并且导入本节课学习的话题和语言目的。
Step Two: Getting word chunks and sentence structures about the time and purpose of festivals from paragraph 2.
Ask students to read paragraph two and find the sentences expressing time and purpose of a festival. Then, guide students to get the sentence structures and word chunks and take notes on their paper sheet.
【设计意图】:引导学生学会从语句中提取表达时间和目的的核心词块和句型,并摘录记忆。
Step Three: Using word chunks and sentence structures about the time and purpose to describe each of the following festival.
Guide students to name the festival and its time together, and give time for them to think about how to express the time and purpose of a festival using the suitable word chunks and sentence structures. Then ask three students to express orally one by one and guide students to find small mistakes if any and also give an example one by one.
Festival one: Teachers’ Day takes place on Sep, 10th, which is held to show that people are grateful for teachers’ hard work.
Festival two: The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is held to honor a famous figure ---Quyuan.
Festival Three: The Spring Festival is celebrated for nearly two weeks, which is held to celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of spring.
【设计意图】:让学生通过描述三个节日的时间和庆祝目的来运用文中的重要词块和句型,学会模仿运用。
Step Four: Getting word chunks and sentence structures about the celebrations and meanings of festivals.
Students read the passage again and underline word chunks and sentence structures about the celebrations and meaning of festivals. Then, ask some students to read what they have found out. When the teacher take notes on the blackboard, students also have to write down key ones on their paper sheet. Finally, students read the important word chunks and sentence structures shown on the slide together.
【设计意图】:学生再次回归阅读文本,从文中寻找表达节日庆祝方式和意义的词块和句型,摘录重点到学案单上,分析、感知,供后续记忆和运用。
Step Five: Using important word chunks and sentence structures to translate three sentences.
Give time for students to think about how to translate the sentences into English, and then guide them to say together. During this process, guide them to properly use some ones which may be easily mistaken, such as the use of V-ing/N following predicate verb, and the use of the verb’s third person singular.
【设计意图】:挑选表达节日庆祝方式和意义的高频词块和句型,让学生当堂翻译来巩固运用,为下一环节的练笔做准备。
Step Six: Introducing the celebrations and meaning of the Spring Festival with the suitable word chunks and sentence structures.
Give time for students to read the requirements of the writing task and guide students to find what they have to complete is something about the celebrations and meaning of the Spring Festival. They also have to pay attention to two things: First, the introduction should be objective without too much explanation. Second, what they continue to complete should be within 65 words.
【设计意图】:设置回信介绍春节给国外朋友的真实情境,让学生运用节日庆祝方式和意义的词块进行有效表达。同时,培养学生在交际环境下的恰当表达意识和能力。
Step Seven: Appreciating the writing with the guidance of the checklist.
Students can appreciate their writing from the following aspects if they have already finished their task. The teacher takes one or two examples from students and then guide them to appreciate.
