请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A car needs gas to run as your body needs food to work for you. Eating the right kinds of food is very important. A good eating habit can help your body grow strong if you take care of what you eat.
There are four main food groups altogether. The dairy group has food like milk, cheese and sour milk. The other three groups are the meat and fish group, the fruit and vegetable group, and the bread and rice group. Each meal should have at least one food from all four main groups. With all of these foods together, you will be given enough energy during the day.
It is easy to get into bad eating habits. You may eat your breakfast in a hurry to get to school on time or you may not have time for a good lunch. It may be easier to eat fish and chips for your supper all the time. But you will find yourself tired and you will not be able to think quickly.
Watching what you eat will help keep your body healthy and strong. It is also good to take some exercise. It will help you eat more if you take a walk or play games in the open air. Having good eating habits with some exercise is the key to your health.
56. According to the passage, which of the following diets do you think is the best one?
A. Eggs, tomatoes and chicken. B. Milk, bread, cabbages and beef.
C. Corn, fish, ice cream and pork. D. Rice, beancurd, fish and chicken.
57. In this passage the writer mainly tells us that ______.
A. every person needs food to grow well
B. taking exercise can keep your body strong
C. the right kind of food with exercise will keep you healthy
D. enough energy helps people think more quickly

While income worry is a rather common problem of the aged, loneliness is another problem that aged parents may face. Of all the reasons that explain their loneliness, a large geographical distance between parents and their children is the major one. This phenomenon(现象) is commonly known as "Empty Nest Syndrome”(空巢综合症).
In order to find better chances outside their countries, many young people have gone abroad, leaving their parents behind with no clear idea of when they will return home. Their parents spend countless lonely days and nights, taking care of themselves, in the hope that someday their children will come back to stay with them. The fact that most of these young people have gone to Europeanized or Americanized societies makes it unlikely that they will hold as tightly to the value of duty as they would have if they had not left their countries. Whatever the case, it has been noted that the values they hold do not necessarily match what they actually do. This geographical and cultural distance also prevents the grown-up children from providing response in time for their aged parents living by themselves.
The situation in which grown-up children live far away from their aged parents has been described as "distant parent phenomenon", which is common both in developed countries and in developing countries. Our society has not yet been well prepared for "Empty Nest Syndrome".
58.According to the passage, the loneliness of aged parents is mainly caused by ________.
A. their earlier experience of living alone
B. the poor living conditions in their native countries
C. the common worry that they have not saved much money
D. the distance between where parents live and where their children live
59.Many young people have gone abroad, leaving their aged parents behind, to ______.
A. realize their dreams in foreign countries
B. seek a better place for their aged parents
C. live in the countries with more money
D. continue their studies abroad
60.If young people go abroad, __________.
A. they do not hold to the value of duty at all
B. they can give some help to their parents back home
C. they cannot do what they should for their parents
D. they believe what they actually do is right
61. From the last paragraph, we can infer that __________.
A. the situations in the developed and developing countries are different
B. "Empty Nest Syndrome" has arrived unexpectedly in our society
C. children will become independent as soon as they go abroad
D. the aged parents are not fully prepared for "Empty Nest Syndrome"
62.The society discussed in the passage is most probably __________.
A. France B. America C. China D. Britain
C
"Hey, don't read in the hallway. Your eyesight will be damaged." You must have heard such warnings many times. Don’t read in dim (暗的)light! This is one of the “pearls of wisdom” that are supposed to help us live a healthy life. Such common beliefs, however, lack scientific basis, according to a paper published recently in the British Medical Journal.
Do you believe in the following everyday wisdom?
Reading in dim light ruins your eyesight.
In dim light, you might blink (眨眼) more, feel discomfort from drying and have trouble focusing. But the majority of eye experts believe it is unlikely to do any permanent damage.
We must drink at least eight glasses of water a day
In 1945, the Nutrition Council in US suggested that people need to consume 2.5 litres of water a day. But the water contained in food, particularly fruit and vegetables, as well as in milk, juice and soft drinks, also counts towards the total.
We only use 10 percent of our brains.
This myth arose as early as 1907. People have long argued about our power of self-improvement and our brains’ potential abilities. But detailed imaging shows that no area of the brain is silent or inactive.
Shaving your legs causes hair to grow black faster and thicker.
This theory is also illusion. Shaving has no effect on the thickness or rate of hair growth,
studies say. Just over time, the edge of hair gets worn away and thus the edge of long hair becomes finer (更细). So hair that is newly grown gives the impression of darkness.
63.What does the paper say about some common beliefs?
A. They are pearls of wisdom B. They help us live in healthy ways
C. They are well-known theories. D. They do not have scientific basis.
64.Which of the following is true according to the passage ?
A. Reading in dim light does harm to one’s eyes.
B. People need a total of 2.5 litres of water a day
C. People use 90 percent of their brains.
D. Shaving your legs will give you thicker hair.
65.This passage is most likely to be found in __________ ?
A. a newspaper B. a science fiction
C. a biology textbook D. a medical book

Text 1
W: What kind of dress are you looking for?
M: Since it's getting warmer this time of the year, I want something lightweight. What do you think would be the best?
Text 2
M: I must say, Miss, the food was great and I've never had better service.
W: Well, thank you, sir. I'll pass your praise on to the cook and the manager. And thanks too for the tip.
Text 3
W: I've to go to Washington this afternoon, but I'm too tired to drive and the bus is so uncomfortable.
M: No problem. I'll save you the cost of a taxi by dropping you off at the train station on my way to work.
Text 4
W: I have been thinking about my uncle a lot these days.
M: Why not go over for a visit?
Text 5
W: Good morning, can I help you?
M: Yes, I'd like to know something about the weather in Arizona in the coming week.
W: Well, it will be fairly hot and there will be much rain.
M: I see. Thanks very much for your help.
Test 6
M: Welcome, Miss. May I help you?
W: I hope so. I want a lipstick.
M: Do you have any particular brand in mind?
W: I like Lyfel very much.
M: We have different shades of Lyfel lipstick. May I know what color you usually wear?
W: Pink. But today, I'm thinking of buying one in a dark shade. You know, I will be a teacher next month. I wish to look more serious.
M: Yes, I see. How do you like this one?
W: Not too bad. May I have a try?
M: Certainly, Miss.
W: Mmm… It's still too bright. Any darker shades?
M: Not from the Lyfel group, I'm afraid.
W: Well, any brand will do as long as I can get the right color.
M: How about this one, then? It has more transparent touch.
W: OK, that’the very thing I need.
Test 7
M: It's so hard for me to learn English. Why is it so easy for you?
W: I didn't know you were having problems. Maybe it's easier for me because I already speak two languages. But also, I really work at it.
M: Well, I always do my homework and go to classes. What else do you think would help?
W: Well, you might try reading newspapers. And I always talk to Americans when I get a chance, though sometimes it’s hard.
M: But, how do you meet Americans? I only know other foreign students.
W: How about sitting next to an American at lunch, or have you ever thought of asking someone over to your house for dinner?
M: Those are good ideas. But I' m a little shy to speak English.
W: You won't learn if you don’t try and speak. If I were you, I'd talk to your English teacher. He might have some good ideas.
Test 8
M: Hello, my name’s David Parker . I'm calling about the apartment advertised in the paper. Can you tell me something about it?
W: Yes, it’s a one-bedroom apartment, with a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a balcony.
M: Where is it located?
W: It's on Montreal Road.
M: Is it furnished?
W: Yes, it is furnished with sofas, a dining table, chairs and some appliances.
M: How much is the rent?
W: It’s five hundred dollars per month, including utilities.
M: You mean gas, electricity and heat?
W: Yes, that's right.
M: Is there anything like management fee or parking fee?
W: The management fee is included in the rent. But parking is fifty dollars a month.
M: Can I come and have a look at it today?
W: Yes, how about one o'clock this afternoon?
M: One o'clock sounds fine. See you then.
W: See you.
Text 9
M: Are you looking forward to your trip to Canada, Susan?
W: I can’t wait to see Canada, Jason, but I' m scared stiff of the journey. My husband insists on flying, but I want to sail. Planes make me nervous.
M: There's nothing to be frightened of. How many planes fly across the Atlantic every day?
W: I've no idea. Hundreds, I suppose.
M: And how often do you hear of a crash? Once or twice a year?
W: Yes, but aero—planes fly so high and fast that once is enough.
M: There are more road accidents per day than air deaths per year. Air transport is really safe compared with road transport.
W: I still prefer to go by sea. Ships may not travel fast but as least you can relax. I'd love a trip on a luxury liner like the Queen Elizabeth II.
M: It's fine if you're a good sailor, but have you ever traveled far in a rough sea?
W: No. I've only been in a boat once. I sailed down the River Thames on a sightseeing tour, but in any case I'd rather be sea — sick than dead.
Test 10
Hello, everyone. I'd like to tell you a story about Miss Richards.
Miss Richards was a teacher at a school for boys and girls. She taught chemistry and physics from the lowest to the highest classes in the school. Sometimes the new classes learned rapidly, but sometimes they were very slow, and then Miss Richards had to repeat things many times.
One year, the first class had been studying chemistry for several weeks when Miss Richards suddenly asked, "What is water? Who knows? Hands up."
There was silence for a few seconds, and Miss Richards felt sad but then one boy raised his hand.
"Yes, Dick?" said Miss Richards encouragingly. He was not one of the brightest students in the class, so she was glad this boy could answer.
"Water is a liquid which has no color until you wash your hands in it, then it turns black," the boy replied.
