Do you know what the world looked like millions of years ago Although it’s impossi-ble to travel back in time, we can still get some information from fossils(化石).
An international research team led by Chinese scientists has found some fossils in Zhangpu County in Fujian Province. They call the group the Zhangpu Biota(生物群).The biota includes around 25,000 amber(琥珀) fossils and 5,000 plant fossils. They are nearly 15 million years old! “The amber fossils have kept the ancient insects quite well, making it a natural ‘museum’ of old life,” a researcher said.
Scientists first found the Zhangpu biota in 2010. They kept doing research there and made several big discoveries(发现). According to scientific researchers, there was a strong warming event between 17 million and 14 million years ago. At that time, the carbon dioxide(二氧化碳) in the air was higher than the general level, and the common temperature was 3-7℃ higher than today, which may be very similar to the environment in 2100. Therefore, understanding the changing process of climate and biota during that period is meaningful to predict the future.
Scientists have found more than 200 families of insects, including bees and ants. The research shows that the Zhangpu Amber Biota is one of the world’s four largest amber biotas. This study aims to understand the change of modern Asian tropical rainforest ecosystems(热带雨林生态系统) and how it provides information for future climate warming.
24.What does the underlined word “They” in the second paragraph refer to
A.Scientists. B.Fossils.
C.Plants. D.Amber.
25.Why do we call the Zhangpu biota a natural “museum”

B.Because it has about 5,000 plant fossils.
C.Because the amber fossils show us the ancient insects clearly.
D.Because it is one of the world’s four largest amber biotas.
26.According to the passage, how long have scientists studied the Zhangpu biota
A.For hundreds of years.
B.For about 50 years.
C.For more than 100 years.
D.For only about 10 years.
27.What can we know from Paragraph 3
A.There were 5,000 kinds of plants in Zhangpu.

由画线单词的上一句“The biota includes around 25,000 amber fossils and 5,000 plant fossils.”
25.C 由第二段最后一句中的“The amber fossils have kept the ancient insects quite well, making it a natural ‘museum’ of old life”可知,这些琥珀化石使这些古代的昆虫保存完好,因此选C。
由第三段第一句“Scientists first found the Zhangpu biota in 2010.”
由第三段倒数第二句“…and the common temperature was 3-7℃ higher than today, which may be very similar to the environment in 2100.”
