You may not know a lot of people when you start high school. Even if you know some freshmen(新生), you still feel nervous that you don't know any upperclassmen or teachers. How are you going to make friends among this sea of unknown faces
Most high schools hold a freshman before school actually starts, which is helpful not only because you can know your way around the building and get to meet some of your teachers, but also because you get to meet fellow freshmen. That way, when you show up on your first day of school, you may already recognise a few familiar faces. When you talk to your new classmates, you'll probably find that a lot of them are feeling just like you are. They're all new to the school and don't know what to expect. Talking about a common concern with them can help you develop friendships.
The work in high school is something that freshmen are probably worried about. The work in high school builds on what you learnt in middle school, giving you a more advanced knowledge of many subjects. So you may find you have more work to do or that it's a bit more challenging. If you ever find your work too difficult, teachers can give you extra help.
High school also has more extra curricular activities than middle school does such as clubs, music and theatre groups and sports teams. This is a good time to explore your interests and try new things.
High school gives you the chance to learn how to manage your time, to develop your social skills and interests, and more importantly to be more independent and responsible.

Kyle Schwartz, a new teacher at Doull Elementary School in Denver, teaches a third grade class. Most of her students come from homes, as 92 percent are entitled (符合资格) to free or reduced school lunches, she said.
“As a new teacher, I tried to understand my students' real lives and how to best support them. I just felt like there was something I didn't know about my students,” she said. To solve this problem, she asked her students to complete the sentence:“I wish my teacher knew...”
While some children used the notes to jokingly complain (抱怨) about homework or to ask for more playtime, Ms.Schwartz said some of the answers were “heartbreaking”, as children showed their hard lives. One student told Ms.Schwartz that he did not have any pencils at home, while another said that they hadn't seen their father for six years. And another student wrote, “I wish my teacher knew sometimes my homework is not signed(签字) because my mom is not around a lot.”
She posted them to Twitter in March with the hashtag # I Wish My Teacher Knew #. Teachers on Twitter soon noticed how successful Ms. Schwartz's trick (策略) was for reaching out to students, and began sharing similar notes they received alongside # I Wish My Teacher Knew #.
Ms.Schwartz said that since she encouraged her students to share their secrets, students have been supporting each other more, and she hopes the method will connect students and their families with the proper resources (资源) they need to live comfortably, She added that the results have been surprising, and the student that said she didn't have anyone to play with has since been invited by classmates to join them in the school playground.

As you grow rapidly through your teenage years, you will experience a lot of changes. The changes may seem difficult and they may seem to happen quickly. Don't panic! You will deal successfully with them! You are a young adult now!
With more responsibility, you will find more freedom to make your own choices. This is a time to be well informed about your choices so that you can make healthy balanced decisions that will help shape your future. You may already know your career path or you may have no idea at all what you want to do. Both situations are fine! Work hard and the right opportunity will present itself to you.
Young adulthood means greater freedom and more choices. You will probably want to be independent. But try not to shut your family out of your life. You should learn to think of others even though you are old enough to look after yourself. Your family have been with you since you came into this world.
It is also perfectly natural in this time for you to spend more time with your friends than your family. Choose your friends wisely. A true friend will stand by you no matter what happens. This period is part of the life cycle. There are some__people who will be with you throughout life's journey and there will be some people with whom you part and go separate ways. Leaving school can be hard. The reality is that you may not ever see all of your classmates again.
You are a young adult. It is your life. No one can live it for you. The choices that you make from now on will be your choices. So making the right choices will be important to you. Life is for living. Enjoy your life wisely!

Dear Daisy,
Phew! I'm so glad the day is over. I'm really tired, but my first day at school went well.
First of all, we met outside the school building. I was very nervous because my primary school only had 300 pupils but in the middle school there are about 1,300. What a difference! The older pupils are really big. I felt so small waiting there in front of the school.
The head teacher came out and told us to go into the school hall. Then he called our names out to tell us which class we were in. My class teacher is called Mrs. Black. She took us to our classroom. It's on the 5th floor. We aren't allowed to use the lift! I couldn't believe it.
We spent all morning with Mrs. Black looking at our timetables. Everyone in the school had a different timetable. I'm worried that I'll forget my timetable and go to the wrong room.
Lunchtime was OK. I had salad, fish and fruit, which was quite good, and then I went to play football with some of the other boys. They were all friendly and I don't think it will take me long to make friends.
After lunch we started lessons. I had maths and then history, where we started to learn about ancient Greece. That looked interesting. I have to do some homework tonight to find out how the ancient Greek people lived, so I'm going to do an Internet search and look it up in the library.
So far so good. I am quite looking forward to tomorrow, even though I've got science. I hate science!
Yours,
Jason
