Turn left/right at ….
Teaching material:
B1、B2
Teaching procedures:
Step One (presentation):
① Warm-up
② Review the new words.
Divide the class into twelve small groups representing different places in a district. Put the pictures of a stadium, a park etc. on their desks to tell which places they represent. Ask a small group of students where they are. If their group represents the stadium, they should say “we are in the stadium.”
③ Show the map of the class on the screen. I introduce a new friend who is a tourist to students and I am going to send her to Beijing by train. But I don’t know how to get to the railway station. Help students to tell me “You can take a bus.” Introduce the bus stop and ask students to look at the bus card to tell which bus I should take. Change the destination into other places such as the shopping mall, the library.
④ Pair-work. Ask students to make dialogues to tell others which bus they should take if they want to go to a certain place.
⑤ Suppose I’m going to drive to the airport but I don’t know where it is. Ask students to look at the map on the screen and tell me the way. I help students to tell the way by using sentences as “Turn right/left at…” “Go straight down…” “it’s on the right/left.” Write these sentences on the blackboard. Ask students to discuss in small groups whether there are any other ways to get to the airport.
⑥ Let’s chant.
Go to the airport
Take a car
Turn right, turn left
Go straight down.
Step Two (practice):
⑦ Play a flash game to consolidate the expression of “go straight”, “turn right/left”. They should help the little girl get out of the puzzle. When she gets out, she can get presents.
⑧ A game: finding presents.
Ask a student what present he/she likes. I hide the present in the classroom and other students tell him/her the way to get the present. They can use the expression of “Go straight down”, “Turn left”, “Turn right”.
⑨ Draw a map to tell me how to get to student’s house.
Step Three (conclude):
Homework: draw a map and tell me how to get to Rainbow Shopping Mall from our school.
