3. Present the story
Halloween is one of the traditional festivals in the western countries. What do people do at Halloween?
Read the story carefully, then answer the following questions.
When is Halloween?
What do children do at Halloween?
What are treats?
What is a jack-o’-lantern?
Show them the Teaching CD-ROM for the pupils and ask them to listen.
Listen again and ask the pupils to say the sentences after the cassette.
Ask the pupils to role-play the story in groups of two.
Ask several pupils to act it out.

REQUIRED

Look at this picture. Can you say the word?
STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURES:
Everyday English.
Advanced organizer.
Play CD. Ask the pupils to listen to the sound and the words, then repeat after the teacher. Check that they can say them correctly.
Play CD again. The pupils listen and say the poem.
Ask the pupils to listen to the four words at the bottom of the page and to circle the words with the same letters and sounds.
Do the exercises in WB p54. Then check the answers.
Play CD. The pupils listen to the chant and join in with the words.
Ask the pupils to number the verses according to the pictures they see.
Learn Part H. Teach the pupils how to say the years and the numbers for the previous decade in English, then they work out the animal for 2012 by counting round the animal pictures to 2012.

3. Ask the pupils to find the date of their favourite festival, then fill in the information about their favourite festivals. Ask them to look at a calendar to find out the dates their favourite festivals fall on next year.
4. The pupils use the words and phrases in the table to complete sentences about their favourite festivals without the names of their favourite festivals.
5. The pupils decorate their writing with appropriate designs for their festival.
6. Work in pairs. Ask them to read their riddles to their friends. They guess their friends’ favourite festivals.
7. Use the slide to display their writing.

Encourage some of the groups come to the board and give a show.
Check their answers by using the CD-Rom.

A. Let pupils say aloud the phrases by themselves using the pattern which they have learned.
Easter, eat chocolate eggs, the Dragon Boat Festival, watch boat races, Halloween, go “trick or treat”, Christmas, get presents, Chinese New Year, get lucky money
B. Talk in pairs with the patterns which they had learned. Then ask some pairs to act their dialogue out.

Step Two: Presentation
T: Which festivals do you know?
Ss: Chinese New Year; Teacher’s day; Mother’s Day; Father’s Day; Mid-Autumn Day… (Write down these festivals on the board.)
Ask the pupils ‘When’s ? What do you do at ?’Write down the sentence.
(Show PPT doc.)Introduce that Pat and KOKO are going to see a Festival Picture Show. Go with them and recognize some Chinese and Eastern festivals, e.g. Dragon Boat Festival, Easter, Halloween… At the same time, use some festival costumes, decorations to explain some festival traditions and activities.
Group-talk: Do a simple survey. Send them several papers with some surveys for them to do.
Give them two questions:
Which festival do you like best? Why?
What do you do at this festival?
They should ask their friends and write down the result.
5. Stick their survey paper on the board and speak out the result.
