Ⅴ.阅读理解
As we know, the 21st century is an age of information. A smartphone is one of the quickest tools for us to exchange information. But people today spend most of their free time on their smartphones, even when they eat together.
Curry Pizza Company, a pizza place in Fresno, California, is offering customers a “Talk to Each Other Discount(折扣)”, which requires customers to agree to have their smartphones locked up while they are in the restaurant and simply talk to each other during their meal. The discount is only applicable(适用的) to groups of four people or more, all of whom must be carrying a working smartphone. If they qualify(具备资格) for the offer, diners will receive a free large pizza that they can enjoy on their next visit, or they can donate it to the homeless in downtown Fresno.“Our goal is to get families or friends to stop using their phones while eating and to talk to each other and communicate more,” a Curry Pizza Company announcement on Facebook states.
Co-owner Varinder Malhi told FOX News that he was inspired to implement(实行) the discount by his own phone usage. Wanting to set a good example to his children, he decided to only use his phone at home for emergencies(紧急情况) and, after experiencing the benefits of a smartphone break, he wanted to incentivize others to try it as well.
In order to be eligible(符合条件的) for the “Talk to Each Other Discount”, groups must have at least four people, because when it’s fewer than that, people tend to talk to each other more naturally. Ⅵ.[2020·抚顺改编]任务型阅读
No matter where you go, no matter what you do, when you are in public places, you have to be in good manners. How should we behave in public places
Keep your voice down
Don’t speak or laugh loudly. Remember that although you may be excited and want to voice your excitement, the people around you may not be interested in it at all. It’s polite to speak at low volume(音量). This includes laughing as well.
Dress properly
Dress in a way that is appropriate(适合的) for the place that you are going to. If you are going to an event where people dress in a formal(正式的) way, do the same. For example, do not wear blue jeans or a T-shirt to a dinner party. But it is acceptable to dress casually(穿着随意) if you are going to a museum or a movie theatre.
Use table manners
When you eat in public places, use your table manners.
They may help you leave a good impression(印象). In Western countries, do not pick up food with your hands. You should pick up with a fork or a spoon. When you are in China, you shouldn’t start eating first if there are older people at the table. Using your phone while having a meal is also bad behaviour.
