"To me, love is the most important thing. What could be more healing than love ”
These words, like lines from a poem, are from Robin, who founded the Bumi Sehat Bali Clinic in central Ubud. Now the clinic provides treatment or educational support for over 100, 000 people annually.
Giving birth to her first child at nineteen, Robin moved to Hawaii after college, working for several years on a farm, where she taught farming practices and poetry. But in 1991, she received heartbreaking news. Her idyllic life on the farm was turned upside down when her sister, expecting a child in Alabama, died of pregnancy complications (孕娠并发症).
"When my dear sister passed away, I realized mothers were dying everywhere. In countries with increased poverty, some people can't afford to go to the hospital. What motivated me initially was my love for my sister, but this soon grew into a concern for mothers and children all over the world. "Robin's feelings for her sister were transformed into a desire to help women everywhere in need.
To ensure that children are born healthy, nutritionally balanced meals are provided for expecting mothers free of charge. Those who lack housing are free to stay as long as it is necessary. The clinic also sees patients of all ages who have symptoms unrelated to childbirth, while providing facilities for language learning and IT education, and annually training over 6, 000 nursing and midwifery (助产)students, backed by a scholarship program. Just as Robin said, love is to be found inside the Bumi Schat Bali Clinic. Perhaps feelings of showing kindness toward others and wanting to make the world a better place are the key to a brighter tomorrow.

Earlier this month, two high school students from Longmont, Colorado, US, led a gardening lesson for fifth graders from Burlington Elementary School.
Burlington, in Longmont, is one of 10 local primary and high schools benefiting from an $11, 700 grant (拨款)from the Farm to School program supported by United States Department of Agriculture. The grant aims to build on ongoing nutrition education, add farm-to-school training and create gardening mentorships (导师制).For the mentorship program, about 125 high school students are participating to help school garden education.
Kate likes the idea of volunteering with younger students. She noted that many school gardens are currently empty. "It gives the kids responsibility to care for plants. "she told Daily Camera. "It's always so much fun to play with dirt. It's very beneficial to energetic kids. ”
In addition to small gardens at the schools, the grant helps to build greenhouses to enable students to grow food. Last summer, the teacher Jennifer arranged a "salad day" harvest for students at the Burlington Elementary School. She guided kids to water the plants in a greenhouse garden twice a day. This semester, kids have planted tomato and herb seeds with the help of the high school students. Later this spring they will work with the student union on a plant sale.
Several Burlington fifth graders are also making a short film about the greenhouse and its origins. They recorded the whole process of establishing the greenhouse. Roman described the process as beautiful, especially now that planting has started. “It could inspire people to grow healthy plants at home, "she said.

A new phone app uses vibrations (振动)from smart phones to alert people about earthquakes.
The phone app recognizes sudden shaking of the earth’s surface through sensors (传感器)in smart phones. The new app is called MyShake. It is the work of four researchers at the University of California, Berkeley. They said they created a worldwide warning system that would inform people and give them time to prepare. The MyShake app is available only for Android phones.
Smart phones are equipped with accelerometers (加速计). These instruments measure movement, like that of a car or airplane. They can also measure the shaking of a machine, building or other structure. Accelerometers are used in activity trackers and apps that count steps or other exercise. They are also used in global positioning system (GPS)apps.
MyShake uses phone accelerometers to measure seismic (地震引起的)activity. It has been programmed to know the difference between normal activity and earthquake movement. The software developers say their app is right 93 percent of the time. A smart phone sends seismic information to the app developers. If the developers receive information from one area, it recognizes that an earthquake may be taking place or will take place soon. Using information sent from the app, the network then estimates the location and strength of the quake in real time. MyShake can record magnitude(规模)5. 0 earthquakes at distances of 10 kilometers or less. MyShake uses very little power, according to its developers. Only when seismic activity is sensed by the app does it become active and sends data to the network.
The app works best when your phone is resting on a flat surface, like a table. The app also shows ways to stay safer during an earthquake. The developers say it will become more effective as more people use it.
32. What can we know about MyShake
A. It can be applied to all kinds of phones. B. It serves as a worldwide warning system.
C. It's the name of a new smart phone. D. It can prevent and stop the movement of the earth.

A. Through vibrations from smart phones.
B. Through information in smart phones.
C. Through sensors in smart phones.
D. Through accelerometers in smart phones.
34. Why are accelerometers used in MyShake
A. To locate where the user is.
B. To count steps or other exercise.
C. To measure seismic activity.
D. To measure the shaking of building.
35. What's the best title for the text
A. A New Phone App Feels Earthquakes
B. A New Phone App Prevents Earthquakes
C. A New Phone App Keeps You Safe in the Earthquake
D. A New Phone App Makes Smart Phones More Effective

Dear Lucy,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble in making friends in your new school. So I'd like to give you some tips.
Firstly, make eye contact with others while talking with them; smile at them when they look at you, and laugh when they say something funny. Secondly, be confident. There's nothing that attracts people more than someone who has a fairly positive attitude towards life. Thirdly, invite others to do things together. For example, you can ask them to share a table at dinner. Besides, if you don't agree with others, do remember not to argue with them but discuss with them. Finally, offer your help whenever they are in trouble. As the saying goes, “A friend in need is a friend indeed. ”
I hope you will find my tips helpful, and I'm sure that you'll make more and more new friends if you try your best.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text10
Hi, my name is Jim. I'm a life and relationship coach in New York City. Now we'll talk about making a good first impression. You only get one chance to do that, right A really great way to make a good first impression is to make eye contact and to show real interest in the person you're meeting. It's important to remember their names. When you first meet somebody, you should use their names during the conversation to let them know that you remember their names.
You should also allow them to have the spotlight. You can share information about yourself, but don't control the conversation it’s not all about you. Even if you're the most interesting person in the world, people want to talk about themselves too. So be a great listener, ask questions and really make a point of getting to know the other person.
