Ⅱ.阅读理解
My name is Eamon O’Kelly. I was less educated because of the poor living conditions when I was young. But I always think education can give me happiness and satisfaction. So I went back to university full-time at 38 to finish my BA(文学学士) degree.
I was the oldest student in all my classes but I would see a few older students around the college. I studied history and did very well. I didn’t have the distractions that are common among traditional-age students such as partying and boyfriend/girlfriend dramas; I had twenty years’ working experience, so I did everything well and on time; and I had real-world experience that helped me a lot.
When I was 41, I went to law school of New York University for my master’s(研究生) degree. Again, I was among the older students but not the oldest. There was a woman in my class who had graduated from college the year I was born! The same factors(因素) that had helped me in undergraduate(本科) studies also helped me in law school. I graduated in the top ten percent of my class at one of the best law schools in the United States.
People will always tell you you’re too old, talk to you how much you’ll lose, and bring up the opportunity cost. But you alone know what you really need. In your 40s you’re thinking about going back to school and making yourself better. Do it.
