Ⅰ.完形填空
Dear Lily,
I have read your letter about your embarrassing moment. You must have felt 1 at that time, but when you think of it later, you may find it’s nothing at all but an interesting experience. To tell you the truth, I have had the similar 2 , and I still can’t help laughing when I think of the embarrassing moment I had several days ago.
I like orange juice very much, but Mum often says it’s 3 sweet for kids and doesn’t allow me to have any. Last week, my little sister Debbie caught a fever. To make her happy, Mum asked her 4 she wanted, and she said she would like some orange juice. Mum bought two bottles for her. I decided to catch a fever, too. Then Mum would give me the 5 .
I tried many ways to catch a fever. I didn’t wear a sweater when I went out or walked in the rain without my shoes, but still nothing 6 . Debbie’s advice was that I could rub(搓) the end of the thermometer(体温计) until it went 7 to 39℃. Then I could put it into my mouth, and my mother would think I have a fever.
The next morning I tried doing that, but it 8 went above 37℃. I rubbed it for ten 9 , then held the thermometer next to the light on my desk, and it went up to 42℃. I thought I’d put it into my mouth and walk downstairs like that, but I had never thought the thermometer would be so 10 . As soon as I put it into my mouth, I burnt my tongue. I spat(吐) the thermometer out at once, and it fell onto the floor and was broken. My tongue had a “fever” and it was a really bad feeling! I won’t try that again for orange juice any longer!
Yours,
Mary

Subject: Help! Date: 15/04/2019 9:05 A.M.
Dear Aunt Carla, I’m having a problem with my classmate, Joan, at school. The other day I wrote an e-mail to another classmate, Beth, in which I said something about Joan that perhaps wasn’t very nice. Unluckily, when Beth was writing back to me, she sent it to Joan@, which is Joan’s e-mail address! Now Joan is really angry with me and won’t talk to me, and Beth is unhappy as well. She has said sorry to me a hundred times already, but the harm is done. I feel bad, because I would never have said those things to Joan’s face, but how do I get her to forgive(谅解) me What should I do Eric

Dear Eric, This problem is more common than you might think! E-mail is very useful, but also very dangerous, as you don’t know where your massage might end up! First of all, you should say sorry right away to Joan. Explain that it was a mistake, and that you didn’t mean to hurt her feelings. It may take time for her to be able to forgive you, but that’s up to her. Then you might want to do something nice for her. Perhaps send her some flowers to show that you’re truly sorry. Also, you should remember that old saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” And good luck! Carla
