Do you know the date of Thanksgiving Day this year Even if you don’t know the exact date, you probably know what day it falls on: Thursday. So has Thanksgiving Day always been on a Thursday
Thanksgiving Day was first celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in November 1621. We don’t know whether the first celebration was on a Thursday or not. But that celebration wasn’t repeated on the same day the next year or any of the years thereafter.
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared that a national day of thanksgiving to be celebrated on Thursday, November 26.
