◆if、 whether引导的宾语从句
当由陈述句充当宾语从句时,常由that来引导,其中that在句中没有任何实际意义,通常可以省略;当由一般疑问句或否定句充当宾语从句时,常由if或whether来引导,if或whether在句中意为“是否”。如:

宾语从句
[定义] 在复合句中作宾语的从句叫作宾
语从句。
[结构] 主句+引导词+主语+谓语+其他成
分。
注意: 宾语从句中的语序为陈述句语序。
if或whether引导宾语从句时,作“是否”讲,一般情况下,两者常可换用。宾语从句由一般疑问句充当,引导词用if/whether如:
Will it rain tomorrow
Nobody knows whether / if it will rain tomorrow.
没有人知道明天是否下雨。
He tells me that he will go to the college next year.
他告诉我他明年上大学。
Will there be a bus any more
I don’t know if / whether there will be a bus any more.
我不知道是否还会有公交车。
Had they have a sweater
Lucy asked whether (if) they had a sweater.
露西问他们是否有毛衣。
if或whether引导宾语从句时,要注意三个方面,即连词、语序和时态。
(1) if或whether不能和that 或其他连词(副词)同时使用,也不能省略。如:
【译】 我不知道他今天是否会来。
【误】 I don't know that if (whether) he will come here today.
【正】 I don't know if (whether) he will come here today.
(2) if或whether引导宾语从句时,但从句应用陈述句语序。如:
“Do you know the way to the hospital ” the old woman asked me. (合并为宾语从句)
The old woman asked me if (whether) I knew the way to the hospital.
老妇人问我是否知道去医院的路。
(3) if或whether引导的宾语从句的时态应和主句保持一致。即主句为一般现在时或一般将来时,从句可根据需要选用任一种时态;主句为一般过去时,从句则用过去时中的任一种时态。如:
I don't know if (whether) he has come here.
我不知道他是否来过这儿。
[注意]
whether与if通常情况下可以互换, 但在下列情况下通常用whether而不用if。
①从句后有or not的情况。如:
The teacher asks me whether I have finished my homework or not.
老师问我是否已经完成作业了。
②从句前有介词的情况。如:
My parents are talking about whether we will go to Hong Kong for travelling.
父母正在讨论是否去香港旅游。
His father is worried about whether he will lost his work.
他的父亲担心是否会失去工作。
③从句在句首的情况。如:
Whether you like it, I don’t mind.
你是否喜欢, 我不介意。
④ 在动词不定式之前只能用whether 。如:
I can't decide whether to stay.
我不能决定是否留下。
⑤用if会引起歧义时,只用whether。如:
Could you tell me if you know the answer
这句话有两种意思:“你能告诉我是否知道答案吗?”或“如果你知道答案,请告诉我,好吗?”。如用whether可避免歧义。
⑥如果主句已有一个if引导的条件句,为了避免产生混淆,应使用whether。如:
He asked me whether, if there was enough time, I wanted to go to his office.
他问我如有足够的时间是否想去他的办公室。

◆who, how, whose, what, when, why,where,whom谁;等引导的宾语从句
如果宾语从句原来是特殊疑问句, 只需用原来的疑问词引导即可。

He asks how we can help protect the environment.
Where should we go for the holiday
They have decided where they should go for the holiday.
一定要注意:在疑问词引导的宾语从句中,一定要用陈述句语序。
[注意]
当主句是现在时或将来时时,从句可根据需要使用任何时态。
当主句是过去时态时,从句中的时态一般用表示过去的某种时态。
宾语从句口诀
时态、语序、引导词
学习宾从三注意:
主句若为现在时,从句时态随句意。
主句若为过去时,从句也要用过去。
语序要用陈述序,切莫照般疑问句。
that引导陈述句,省与不省没关系。
从句若表是否时,if、whether均可以。
特殊疑问作宾语,仍用原来疑问词。

I met Peter in primary school. We found ourselves sitting next to each other. At first we were just friends at school, but as we grew older, we started doing other things together.
