Step 1 Revision
Free talk

Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Work in pairs. Talk about the following questions.
(1) Do you think English is a difficult subject
(2) What makes it difficult for you to learn English
(3) Which gives you a headache: understanding English, vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading or writing
2. Match the problems with settlements.

Step 3 While-reading
Work on 3a&3b
1. Listen and read the passage about Wei Fen and answers the questions.
2. Read again and complete the sentences.
【设计意图】阅读训练,首先让学生认真阅读题目,了解所要干的事情,之后带着问题进行阅读,提高阅读效率。
Step 4 Post-reading
Fill in the blanks and retell the passage.
【设计意图】通过文章构架让学生学会摘取文章信息,同时复述全文有利于提高学生的口语表达能力。
Language points
1. The teacher spoke so quickly that I did not understand her most of the time. 老师说的如此地快以至于大部分时间我都不能明白她。
so…that… 意为“如此……以至于……”
so是副词,常常用来修饰形容词和副词,that引导结果状语从句。
e.g. Tim spoke so fast that we couldn’t understand him.
2. I was afraid to ask questions because of my poor pronunciation. 我害怕问问题因为我的发音很差。
(1) be afraid to do 意为“害怕做某事”
e.g. Tina is afraid to speak in front of the class.
(2) because of + 名词或代词 意为“因为……”
e.g. He didn’t go to the museum because of the rain.
3. I fell in love with this exciting and funny movie. 我爱上了这部刺激并且有趣的电影。
fall in love with… 意为“爱上……”
e.g. Miss Green makes us fall in love with English in an interesting way.
4. My pronunciation improved as well by listening to the conversations in English movies.通过听英语电影中的对话,我的发音也提高了。
as well 意为“也;还”
e.g. He speaks English, and he knows Chinese as well.
5. I discovered that listening to something interesting is the secret to language learning.我发现听一些有趣的东西是语言学习的秘诀。
the secret to… 意为“(做)……的秘诀”
e.g. What’s the secret to your success
6. But because I wanted to understand the story, I looked them up in the dictionary.但因为我想了解这个故事,所以我在词典中查阅了它们。
look up 意为“查阅”
e.g. You can look up the word in the dictionary if you don’t know it.
7. I want to learn new words and more grammar so that I can have a better understanding
of English movies. 我想学习新的单词和更多的语法以便于我能对英语电影有更好的了解。
so that… 意为“以便于;为了……”,引导目的状语从句,相当于in order to/so as to,但是in order to常放于句首或句中,so as to常放于句末,而so that常放于句中。
e.g. Eric studies hard so that he can get a good grade in last examination.
