It is said that we will live on the planet Mars by the year 2100. Our own planet, Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. Here is what life will be like on Mars.
First of all, transport(交通)should be much better. Now our spaceships are too slow to carry may people to Mars—it takes months. However, by 2100, the spaceship can travel at half the speed of light. It might take us two or three days to get Mars!
Secondly, humans need food, water and air to live. Scientists should be able to develop plants that can be grown on Mars. These plants will produce food and air that we need. However, can these plants produce water for us There is no answer yet.
Life on Mars will be better. People will have more space. Living in a large building with only 10 bedrooms is highly possible. Many people believe that robots will do most of our work, so we have more time for our hobbies.
There will probably be no school on Mars. Every student will have a computer at home. They can study, do their homework and take exams in online schools. Each student will also have their own online teacher called “e-teacher”.
However, in some ways, life on Mars may not be better than that on the earth today. Food will not be the same. Meals will probably be in the form of pills and will not be as delicious as they are today. Also, space travel will make many people feel ill. The spaceship will travel fast but the journey to Mars will probably be very uncomfortable.

Tim Berners-Lee is not the most famous inventor in the world. However, his invention has changed our lives.
He was born in London, England in 1955. When he was a small boy, Tim was interested in playing with electrical things. He studied science at Oxford University. He made his first computer from an old television at the age of 21.
Tim started working on early computers. At that time, they were much bigger than now. He worked in England and then Switzerland. Tim was really interested in two things, computers and how the brain works. How could the brain connect so many facts so quickly He had to work with people all over the world. They shared information about computers. It was hard to manage all the information. He answered the same questions again and again. It took a lot of time. It was even difficult for computers in the same office in Switzerland to share information. Tim also forgot things easily. Could a computer work like a brain Could it “talk” to other computers
There was an Internet already but it was difficult to use. In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee invented the Word Wide Web(www)all by himself. This had a special language that helped computers talk to each other on the Internet. When people wanted to share information with others, they used the World Wide Web. The Internet grew quickly after that.
Tim Berners-Lee doesn’t think he did anything special. He says that all of the ideas about the Internet were already there. All he did was to put them together. He says that many other people worked together to make the Internet what it is today.
Most inventors want to become rich. But Tim gave away the World Wide Web for nothing. He now works in America. He helps people share technology and wants the Internet to be free for everyone to use. Maybe he is the most important but least famous inventor in the world today!

A 1~5 CABBC B 6~10 ABABD
11.C 解析:根据第三段中的“Tim was really interested in two things, computers and how the brain works”以及其后的描述可知正确答案。故选C。
12.D 解析:结合画线词前的“He answered the same questions again and again”可知正确答案。故选D。
13.D 解析:根据最后一段中的“He helps people share technology and wants the Internet to be free for everyone to use. Maybe he is the most important but least famous inventor in the world today”可知正确答案。
use sth. to do sth.
dream of doing sth.
故选A。
may not意为“可能不会”,don’t have to意为“没有必要”,needn’t意为“不需要”,均不符合文意。故选A。
故选A。

Life in the Future
As time goes by, there is going to be big changes in our daily life. For example, when we’re hungry, we don’t need to cook in a hurry. Just take some pills, and everything will be OK. When we’re free, we can go anywhere by spaceship. It’s easy to be a visitor there. And it’s very cheap just like taking a taxi to somewhere now. And of course, if we want to see what’s like under the sea, just travel down there in an object like UFO. Maybe there are lots of cities and people there. I think it’ll be very easy to travel anywhere, not only in our world but also in space and in the deep sea.
