----Reading:Puzzles In Geography
一、学情分析
教学对象为高中二年级上学期学生。学生已经进行了高中英语一年的学习,他们会对课堂内容提出自己的疑惑,并且从课内知识拓展到课外,不过, 学生水平参差不齐, 掌握程度不同,有些差距还相当大。因此,在对语言材料进行学习时除了语言知识的学习和掌握,还有必要引导学生进行深度学习,运用一定的阅读策略提升理解运用能力。
The analysis of the students
1.The studens have already had a basic reading skill, however they are lacking in the background knowledge of he United Kingdom, such as history ,geography ,and culture etc.
2.The passage is similar to The Canada—The True North. They both have the same theme ----a brief introduction to an English-speaking country, which will reduce the difficulty of students’understanding the structure of the passage .
3. There are some difficult nouns about geography, history, human races and system . And the contents about UK formation are abstract,which are difficult to understand.
二、学习内容(教材分析)
The analysis of the cotents:
The period is the second period(Reading) of Book5 unit2,PUZZLES IN GEOGRAPHY(地理之谜).The reading material is a brief introduction to the UK about its foundation and development based on its geography, history and culture. We will clarify some puzzles about the UK,Great Britain,capital London and learn more about the geogrephy,history, politics,culture,etc.about the United Kingdom. It is a little difficult for students to understand this type of passage.
根据学生水平和教学设计进行整合或增减,让不同层次的学生在课堂上都有所收获。

Knowledge goal:
(1). know about the geography, history, and culture about United Kingdom.
(2).master the important words and phrases in the passage.
(3).understand some long and difficult sentences

Ability goal:
(1) help students read effectively to get the main idea of the passage and improve the ability of reading and comprehending(reading strategies).
(2) improve the ability of summarizing a passage and oral work.
(3)Encourage the students to output what they have gained,perfectly accompolishing the process of employing their inputs to practice,especially to written expression.

Emotion goal:
(1)Some basic knowledge about English-speaking
countries helps students arouse the interest of learning English.
(2).Broaden the Ss' international vision and help to
form consciousness of cross–culture communication.

Based on the requirement of the the English curriculum standard
Important points (教学重点):
1. Have a total and detailed comprehension of the UK from history, geography, politics, and culture etc.
2. Help the Ss to learn different reading skills and strategies.

Difficult points(教学难点):
a. Some sentences are hard to understand.
b. How to improve the Ss’ fast reading ability.

Teaching Methods:
1. Skimming & scanning method to make the Ss better understand the whole passage.
2. Task based teaching method to let the students further understand the passage.
3. Discussion method to make the Ss understand what they've learnt in the class.
4.Coorperative teaching method to get every student to take part in the teaching and learning activities.
5.A mix of review,leading-in, summarizing to understanding,
comprehending,using,expressing.
