I. 1.sweat 2.ring out 3.boots 4.position 5.make the most of
6.recognized 7.volunteers 8.analyse
II. 1. reduce by“减少了”;reduce to“减少到”。
leave“离开”;throw “扔”;emphasize“重视”。
此题考查的是that的指代用法,that在此相当于the question。
other than“除了……以外”;more than“不仅”;rather than“而不是”,相当于instead of;less than“不到,少于”。
句中what could be life’s most important decision—marriage作leave的宾语。
9. 选A。
that the earth is becoming warmer and warmer these years是同位语从句,修饰the fact,解释其具体内容。
11. 选A。
when表示时间;how表示方式;why表示原因;if“是否”。
句中what happens是介词of的宾语从句,what在从句中作主语。
14. 选A。 本句话的主语是一个句子he said so at the meeting,句中不缺成分,因此选A。
A项how与句中well一词重复。
18. 选C。it作形式主语,而把主语从句that the two sides will walk towards peace放在了主句之后。
19. 选A。
20. 选A。 work on “从事于,忙于”。
22. 选A。

My dad was in the hospital battling a serious disease when he was rushed to the operating room. After a hurried talk with Dad’s doctors, Mother told my sister and me the worst.
Throughout my childhood, my father had survived many serious medical problems, including a heart attack and cancer. He’d seen the four walls of the hospital room more times than anyone should have to. “Lord, ”I prayed, “please save him. We can’t live without him. ”Dad pulled through. As soon as he felt better, he told us something amazing about that day in the operating room.
“I was scared. I knew I was dying, ”he said. “I moved my head to one side and watched the nurses preparing for the operation. Beyond them I saw a large window which was open. Out of it was a lighted cross. My eyes were fixed upon it. My fears died out. I had the strength to beat the disease and I believed my operation would be successful. The operation started, and then I didn’t know anything. ”
Dad recovered fully and several months later he went to call on a friend at the same hospital. There he looked around for the cross he’d seen. He couldn’t find it. He ran into one of the nurses who had taken care of him. “Can I take a quick look at the operating room where I had my operation?” he asked. The room was free so she took him in. My father was very surprised. There were no windows in the room, and the four walls were solid through and through. Why did he see the cross? It was really amazing, but I think he must have had hallucinations (幻觉)at that time.

attach. . . to 附加在……。
15. 选B。distance之前的介词与冠词的搭配有所不同,at后接a, in后接the。at a distance在稍远处;in the distance在远处。

III.
A
Many animals recognize their food because they see it. So do humans. When you see an apple or a piece of chocolate you know that these are things you can eat. You can also use other senses when you choose your food. You may like it because it smells good or because it tastes good. You may dislike some types of food because they do not look, smell or taste very nice. Different animals use different senses to find and choose their food. A few animals depend on only one of their senses, while most animals use more than one sense.
Although there are many different types of food, some animals spend their lives eating only one type. The giant panda eats only one particular type of bamboo. Other animals eat only one type of food even when given the choice. A kind of white butterfly(蝴蝶) will stay on the leaves of a cabbage, even though there are plenty of other vegetables in the garden. However, most animals have a more varied diet The bear eats fruits and fish. The fox eats small animals, birds and fruits. The diet of these animals will be different depending on the season.
Humans have a very varied diet. We often eat food because we like it and not because it is good for us. In countries such as France and Britain, people eat food with too much sugar. This makes them overweight, which is bad for their health. Eating too much red meat and animal products, such as butter, can also be bad for the health. Choosing the right food, therefore, has become an area of study in modern life.
1. We can infer from the text that humans and animals______.
A. depend on one sense in choosing food
B. are not satisfied with their food
C. choose food in similar ways
D. eat entirely different food
2. Which of the following eats only one type of food?
A. The white butterfly. B. The small bird.
C. The bear. D. The fox.
3. Certain animals change their choice of food when _______.
A. the season changes
B. the food color changes
C. they move to different places
D. they are attracted by different smells
4. We can learn from the last paragraph that _______.
A. food is chosen for a good reason
B. French and British food is good
C. some people have few choices of food
D. some people care little about healthy diet
B
Sydney—A shark savaged a schoolboy’s leg while he was surfing with his father at a beach in Sydney on February 23. It was the third shark attack along the coast of Australia’s largest city in a month.
The 15-year-old boy and his father were in the water off Avalon, on Sydney’s northern beaches, around dawn when he was attacked. The city’s beaches are packed with locals and tourists during the summer months.
“The father heard a scream and turned to see his son thrashing (激烈扭动) about in the water, ”police said. “Fortunately, the shark swam away and the boy was helped to the shore by his father.”
Lifesaving Club spokesman Nick Miller said, “It got him around the top of his left leg and the father came and dragged him out of water.” He said the boy was bleeding heavily when he was brought to the shore. “There was a lot of pain, as you can imagine. ”The teenager was airlifted to hospital for treatment for leg injuries.
Police said the bites “cut through to the bone”, but the boy did not appear to have sustained any fractures(骨折). He was in a stable condition now.
Several beaches were closed after the attack. Water police and lifeguards were searching for the shark, while police hoped to identify its species by the shape of the bite marks. But they said it was too early to say what type of shark attacked the boy. “I don’t even know if he saw it.”Miller said.
Many shark species live in the waters off Sydney’s beaches, but attacks on humans are still relatively rare. However, there were two attacks on successive days earlier this month, one on a navy diver in Sydney harbor, not far from the famous Opera House, and the other on a surfer at the city’s world-famous Bondi beach.
Fishermen say shark numbers are on the rise. There is a ban on commercial fishing in the harbor, which has increased fish stocks. Marine experts also claim environmental protection has created a cleaner environment, attracting sharks closer to the shore as they chase fish. Many shark species, including the Great White—the man-eaters made famous in Steven Spielberg’s Jaws—are protected in Australian waters.
5. The report mainly tells us _______.

Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage.
The world’s first subway was built in London in 1863. At the time, the government was looking for a way to reduce traffic problems. The poor areas of the city were so crowded with people. So the officials decided to make it possible for workers to live outside of London and travel easily to work each day. If people had a convenient way to get to and from work, they would live outside of the city and this would help reduce the pressure. From these problems, the idea of the London Underground was born.
The plans for building the underground met with several problems, but the first track was finally opened in January, 1863. A steam train pulled the cars along the first underground track which was six kilometers long. About 30, 000 people got on the subway the first day. They were treated to comfortable seats and pleasant decorations inside the cars. However, the smoke from the engine soon filled the air in the tunnels with ash and soot, as well as chemical gases. Fans had to be put in the tunnel later to keep the air clean enough for people to breathe. Even with its problems, riding the underground did become popular. It carried nine million riders in its first year.
Modern subways have come a long way since the early days of the London Underground.
Today there are more than one hundred underground systems around the world. Shopping malls built in traffic stations have helped the popularity of subways. Nowadays many stations include underground department stores, supermarkets and restaurants. Shoppers never have to go above ground!

I. 1. 选A。
whether引导的宾语从句与the shape of an object并列。
5. 选D。考查so. . . that. . . 和such. . . that. . . + a/an +n. + that; such + a/an + adj. +n.
7. 选A。 rather than“而不是”;other than“除了”;more than“不仅仅”;except for“除了”,表示除去整体中的一部分。
9. 选D。考查倍数结构:A is. .
15. 选A。
16. 选A。
19. 选A。
20. 选A。

17. 选A。
18. 选A。
