但21岁时，父亲去世，他又因交友不慎，染上毒品.
35岁时阿炳双目失明，他不得不走上街头卖唱，成为街头艺人，他也因此被称为“瞎子阿炳”。
阿炳把对痛苦生活的感受，全部通过音乐反映出来。
一生共创作和演出了多首民间乐曲，其中最著名的曲目是二胡独奏《二泉映月》。
1950年12月4日阿炳病逝，终年57岁。
