一、教学目标
1. 掌握下列重点词汇和短语:seldom, influence, absent, fail, examination, exactly, pride, proud, take pride in, be proud of, in person
2. 能熟练掌握并使用下列重点句式:
Li Wen’s unhappiness began to influence his schoolwork.

Look at the title of the passage and guess what problems he might have.

Step 3 While-reading
Work on 2b&2c
1. Listen and read the passage. Then put the sentence [A-D] in the correct places.
2. Fill in the blanks according to the passage.
3. Read the passage again and underline the problems that Li Wen used to have.

Language points
1. Li Wen’s unhappiness began to influence his schoolwork.
influence 意为“影响”;过去式: influenced;过去分词: influenced;现在分词:influencing;第三人称单数:influences。
e.g. Sometimes hobbies can influence our studies.
2. His parents moved to the city to look for jobs, and his grandparents came to take care of to him.
take care of 意为“照顾;照管”,意同look after。
e.g. I have to look after/take care of my sister.
3. Sometimes he was absent from classes and failed his examinations.
(1) be absent from classes 意为“缺课”,其中absent用作形容词,意为“缺席的”。
e.g. The boy was absent from classes because he was ill.
(2) fail 意为“失败”;fail in sth. 意为“在某方面失败”;fail to do sth. 意为“未能做某事”。
e.g. He failed to pass his driving test.
4. I know my parents love me and they are always proud of me.
proud 意为“自豪的;骄傲的”;
be proud of sth./sb. 意为“为某物/某人而骄傲”,相当于take pride in。
e.g. My parents are proud of me.= My parents take pride in me.
