Language points
1. I used to be afraid of the dark.
used to do sth. 意为“过去常常做某事”;
used to的否定形式有两种:didn’t use to或usedn’t to。
used to用于疑问句时,可借助助动词did,也可以将used提到主语前。
【拓展】use ... to do sth. 意为“用……做……”;be used to do sth. 意为“被用来做某事”;be / get used to sth. / doing sth. 意为“习惯于某事 / 做某事”。
e.g. He used to go to school on foot.
2. What’s he like now
What is sb. like 意为“某人怎么样?”提问人的外貌,性格,品质。
e.g. What’s Mike like He is direct.
【拓展】What does sb. look like 意为“某人长得怎么样?”用于提问人的外貌。
e.g. What dose Mike look like He has long hair.
3. Paula used to be really quiet. This party is such a great idea!
such 为形容词,意为“这(那)样的”;主要修饰名词。
so 是副词,意为“这(那)么;如此地”,主要修饰形容词、副词和分词。
e.g. Do you like such weather
I’m so glad to see you.
【注意】当名词前有many,much,few或little等词修饰时,要用so而不用such。
e.g. I have so much / little homework today.
4. It’s been three years since we last saw our primary school classmates.
(1) It’s been+一段时间+since+从句 意为“从……以来已经有多长时间了”,还可表示为“It is+一段时间+since+从句”。
e.g. It’s been 3 years since I began to learn English.
(2) since 意为“从……以后”,since后面接从句,该从句用一般过去时态,主句用完成时。
e.g. He has learnt English since 3 years ago.
