一、教学目标
1. 熟练掌握下列词汇和短语：background, interview, Asian, deal, dare, ton, private, guard, require, deal with, take up, dare to, give up
2. 熟练掌握下掌握和运用下列句型：
Candy told me that she used to be really shy and took up singing to deal with her shyness.
As she got better, she dared to sing in front of her class, and then for the whole school.
“Well,” she begins slowly, “you have to be prepared to give up your normal life.”
She used to be shy, but now she’s not shy anymore.
She didn’t use to be popular in school, but now she gets lots of attention.
3. 能够运用查读、细读的方式阅读短文，按要求获取相关的信息，并且通过阅读训练来提高阅读能力。
4. 能够用英语描述自己或他人过去常常做的事情；发现自己或他人在外表、性格、兴趣等方面所发生的变化。

Step 1 Warming-up
Let Ss use “used to” and “but now” to describe the pictures.

Step 2 Pre-reading
Look at the picture and talk about the following questions.
What do you think the girl in the picture is doing
What kind of music does she like
What was the girl like in the past
What’s she like now Is she outgoing or is she shy

Step 3 While-reading
Work on 3a&3b
1. Listen and read the article. Then identify the paragraphs.
2. Read the article again and complete the sentences about Cindy.
3. Read the first paragraph and answer the questions.

4. Read the second paragraph and fill in the chart.

take up 意为“开始；从事”
e.g. When did you take up Japanese as a second foreign language
2. As she got better, she dared to sing in front of her class, and then for the whole school.当她变得不那么羞涩时，她敢在她的同学们面前唱歌，然后在全校师生面前唱歌。
dare 意为“敢于；胆敢”； dare to do sth. 意为“敢于做某事”。
e.g. I dare to swim across the river.

be prepared to do sth. 意为“准备做某事 ”；be prepared for sth. 意为“为……做好准备”。
