一、教学目标
1. 熟练掌握下列词汇和短语:ruler, boil, remain, smell, national, trade, doubt, by accident, take place, with doubt
2. 熟练掌握下掌握和运用下列句型:
Do you know that tea, the most popular drink in the world (after water), was invented by accident
It produced a nice smell so he tasted the brown water.
The tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century.
Even though many people now know about tea culture, the Chinese are without doubt the ones who best understand the nature of tea.
3. 能够读懂有关茶叶发明发展过程的文章,能按要求找到相应的信息并完成阅读任务。
4. 能够掌握和运用一般过去时的被动语态来谈论茶叶的发展历史。

Step 2 Pre-reading
1. Look at the pictures and talk about different kinds of tea.
(1) How many kinds of tea do you know
(2) How can you tell them apart
2. Look at the picture and read the words. Then guess the main idea of 3a.

Step 3 While-reading

1. Listen and match each paragraph with its main idea.

Language points
1. Do you know that tea, the most popular drink in the world (after water), was invented by accident
by accident 意为“偶然;意外地”。
e.g. The little girl knocked the glass by accident.
2. It is said that a Chinese ruler called Shen Nong was the first to discover tea as a drink.
It is said that... 意为“据说……”,其中it 是形式主语真正的主语是that引导的从句。类似的句型It is believed that... 意为“人们认为……/据信……”; It’s reported that... 意为“据报道……”。
e.g. It is said that thirteen is an unlucky number in many Western countries.
2. Some leaves from a tea plant fell into the water and remained there for some time.
fell into 意为“落入”
【拓展】fall behind 意为“落后”;fall down 意为“摔倒”;fall off 意为“掉下”;fall asleep 意为“入睡”。
e.g. He fell into the river.
remain 意为“保持不变;剩余”。
(1) 作连系动词,后跟名词、形容词、不定式、分词等做表语。指保持某种状态。
(2) 作不及物动词,意为“剩余”。
e.g. Only a few leaves remained on the tree.
3. It produced a nice smell so he tasted the brown water.
(1) smell此处作名词,意为“气味;嗅觉”;作及物动词,意为“闻到;闻”;作连系动词,意为“有/发出……气味”。
(2) taste此处作及物动词,意为“品尝”;作名词,意为“味道;品味”;作连系动词,意为“有……的味道”。
e.g. It gives off a nice smell.
4. The tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century.
take place 意为“发生;出现”。
(1) 是不及物动词,不能用于被动语态;常指事先安排或事发有因的事情。
e.g. Her sister’s marriage took place at 8:00 today.
(2) 辨析:happen常指偶然发生的事情。
e.g. I happened to see Peter on my way to the museum.
5. Even though many people now know about tea culture, the Chinese are without doubt the ones who best understand the nature of tea.
without doubt 意为“毫无疑问;的确”。
no doubt 意为“无疑,确实地”。
