divide 意为“分开;分散”,divide…into… 意为“把……分开;分散”。
e.g. She divided the orange into quarters and each ate a piece.
2. Basketball has not only become a popular sport to play, but it has also become a popular sport to watch.
not only…but also… 意为“不但……而且……”;若连接两个成分作主语,谓语动词与靠近的主语保持一致。
e.g. Not only the students but also their teacher is enjoying the film.
3. The number of foreign players, including Chinese players, in the NBA has increased.
the number of… 意为“……的数量;……的数目”;作为主语时谓语动词用单数形式。
e.g. The number of women teachers in our school is 400.
a number of… 意为“若干的;一些的”;修饰可数名词,作为主语时谓语动词用复数形式。
e.g. A number of teachers in our school are women.
4. Many young people look up to these basketball heroes and want to become like them.
look up to 意为“钦佩;仰慕”。
e.g. I look up to my parents most.
