Language points
1. When I was a tiny baby crying all night, my mom sang to me and stayed by my side.
(1) crying all night是现在分词短语,在名词baby后作定语,起修饰名词的作用。
(2) stay by my side 意为“待在我身边”。
2. When I was two running through the field, she made sure I was safe and kept me from danger.
(1) make sure 意为“确保”,常用于祈使句中,表示请求或要求对方按照要求做某事,后常接that引导的宾语从句。
(2) keep sb./sth. from… 意为“使某人/某物免受……的影响或伤害”。
拓展:keep sb./sth. from doing sth. 意为“阻止某人/某物做某事”。
3. When I fell and hurt myself, she gave me a hug and lifted me up.
(1) hurt oneself 意为“伤到自己”。
(2) give sb. a hug 意为“给某人一个拥抱”。此处hug用作可数名词,意为“拥抱”。
(3) lift 此处意为“举起,抬高”。lift还可作名词,意为“电梯”,指箱式电梯。lift作名词,还意为“搭便车”。give sb. a lift 意为“让某人搭便车”。
4. Now I’m an adult, thinking back to those times.
times 意为“时光,岁月,时代”。有时也会用days表达类似含义。
5. I regret talking back, not listening to Mom.
regret 意为“遗憾,后悔”。
拓展:
regret doing sth. 意为“后悔做了某事”(对已发生的事情感到后悔)。
regret to do sth. 意为“对要做的事遗憾”(未做)。
regret to say / tell... 意为“遗憾地说/告诉”。
