A Christmas Carol was written by British author Charles Dickens(1812-1870). In the book, Scrooge was a mean and miserly(刻薄的) man. One Christmas Eve, three ghosts visit him. The following passage shows what happens between Scrooge and one of them—the Ghost of Christmas Future. It shows what will wait for Scrooge if he stays heartless and mean.

It took Scrooge to the center of the city. Scrooge could hear some businessmen talking. “All I know,” said the fattest businessman, “is that he died on Christmas Eve.” “What about his money?” another man asked. “No one knows,” another answered. “But the funeral will certainly be very small.
