Museum director Sarah Green is a writer, recommending 4 books that influenced her life.
Hold Still by Sally Mann (2015)
Mann's story, accompanied by her excellent photography, has given me a model for how to be an artist, wife, mother, daughter, friend, and thoughtful member of humanity, all at the same time.
Swimming Studies by Leanne Shapton (2012)
You might not think you want to read a story about an artist-illustrator's past life as a competitive swimmer and her continuing love for swimming, swimming pools and swimsuits. But you do, you really do. Shapton's acute sense memory and sharp essay, coupled with her own experience and photos, are a pleasure from start to finish.
Learning By Heart by Corita Kent and Jan Steward (1992)
Sister Corita Kent was a beloved and revolutionary art teacher in 1960s in Los Angeles and a gifted printmaker. She was also a firm believer in learning by doing, and this is an essential guide to her teaching philosophy.
Kindred by Octavia Butler (1979)
I've never been a fan of science fiction, but this novel rocked my world. You will be completely involved in the thunder-struck reality of a young writer who finds herself traveling between Los Angeles in 1976 and life among her ancestors on an prewar Maryland farm.

In the far future, robots live on Earth as humans but the population of humans is smaller than a thousand. This is a story of a repair robot R-62.
One day, a car came to the repair factory and a human stepped out of the car.
“Wow, a human! I have never seen a real one,” said R-62.
“Humans are quite clever. They’re able to do any action they want to. They’re even able to harm other human beings or organize wars, which they have been doing a lot in the history. Also they don’t even have to follow orders if they don’t want to,” said another robot T-59 quietly to R-62.
“How terrible it is! And almost all robots seem afraid of him and don’t look at him directly,” said R-62.
The human then sat down and asked if there had been any problems in the last 10 years and he only got a quick answer, “No, sir.”
Then suddenly, R-62 said loudly, “I have one question for you.”
The human said, “Yes”, a bit unhappy for not getting “sir”.
“Why do human create so many robots ” asked R-62.
Silence followed the question and he then said, “I don’t need to answer questions from robots!” He then went into his car and drove away quickly.
“I really don’t understand why humans replaced (取代)themselves with robots,” asked R-62.
“Because they thought that robots were more advanced(先进的) than humans. They created us to support themselves,” answered T-59.
“But there are so few humans on Earth. What they should do is take away the robots or at least make them stop doing the work which humans are supposed to do,” said R-62.
“I agree. But we can do nothing about it. And now we have to finish repairing this car,” said T-59.
“All right, let’s continue.”
4. In T-59’s opinion, humans are ________.
A. stupid B. polite C. dangerous D. smart
5. According to the text, R-62 __________.
A. dared not look at the human directly B. decided to give up its job

7. What’s R-62’s attitude towards humans’ creating robots
A. Doubtful B. Excited C. Frightened D. Supportive

If you’re concerned about climate change, should you feel guilty about hanging out online Maybe not.
Data, or information, is often processed and stored on a computer. A computer that provides data to other computers is called a server. Servers also store data such as videos, pictures and emails. A building that holds many servers is known as a data center. Without data centers and servers, we could not access websites on our own computers and phones every day.
Some people worry that data centers use a lot of energy, which could be bad for the environment. But recent studies found that data centers do not use as much energy as they thought.
Eric Masanet, a professor at Northwestern University, is the study’s main author. Masanet and his team looked at the energy used by data centers around the world, and found that data centers have improved. They saw a 20 percent energy improvement each year.
These improvements are due to better servers. They use less energy than servers once did. Other technologies have also improved.
Masanet said to make sure computers use energy effectively, some things need to happen. Businesses and governments should get involved. Countries need to be open about how much electricity their data centers use. Large data companies also need to source their electricity from renewable energy, such as sunlight and wind. For example, Google and Apple both purchased or generated enough renewable electricity to match 100 percent of their data center energy use in 2018.
“People should care about the energy data centers need,” said Masanet. “But we don’t have to feel bad about staying connected.”
8. Why do people need data centers
A. To help people reduce time on computers.
B. To store information and let them use websites.
C. To provide energy needed to run people’s phones.
D. To save data on the Internet instead of on servers
9. What caused data centers to have a 20 percent improvement in energy use
A. Less fuel is being burned in the atmosphere. B. Fewer people are online at the same time.
C. Servers and technologies have improved. D. More information is stored in phones.
10. What does the underlined word “source” in paragraph 6 mean
A. Measure. B. Store. C. Choose. D. Obtain.
11. According to Eric Masanet, how to make sure computers use energy effectively
A. Businesses and governments should be involved.
B. The boundaries of countries should be opened.
C. People need to spend less time online.
D. People need to rely on big data companies.

Mr. Lon Lee Alle is from Singapore. He was recently visiting an Indonesian island so he could see the famous Komodo dragons. Mr. Lon did not want to pay for a tour guide, but he really wanted to take some close-up photos of the dragons when they were eating. Like most wild animals, Komodo dragons do not like to be disturbed when food is around. They turned on Mr. Lon and one of them took a large bite out of his leg. He was rushed to hospital by speedboat. Luckily, he survived.
Komodo dragons are the largest and heaviest lizards(蜥蜴) in the world. They can only be found on a few Indonesian islands including Komodo Island. They have lived on earth for a very long time and remain killing and eating machines. They have a very strong sense of smell which they use to help find their next meal. They will eat almost anything they find. Even though Komodo dragons can run up to 20 kilometers per hour, they prefer to wait for their kill.
When the attack does come, the dragon attacks the animal's feet first, knocking it over. Then, its sharp and fearsome teeth pull the animal to pieces. These teeth contain small pieces of meat from meals it has already eaten and are filled with bacteria—sometimes up to 60 different types. One bite will cause an infection in the wounded animal that will lead to a very painful death a few days later. The Komodo dragon will follow the animal, waiting for it to fall down. It has recently been discovered that Komodo dragons also have venom(毒液) in their mouth. The venom causes animals to bleed to death—if the infection does not get it first.
Today, there are about 4,000 Komodo dragons in the wild. Five people have been killed and 30 injured by dragon bites in the past 40 years.
12. What happened to Mr. Lon Lee Alle
A. He was fooled by the tour guide. B. He was seriously injured by a Komodo dragon.
C. He paid a lot to take Komodo dragons' photos. D. He got lost on an Indonesian island.
13. What purpose does Paragraph 1 serve in the text
A. To start a discussion. B. To bring up the topic.
C. To provide an explanation. D. To offer basic knowledge of the topic.
14. What do we know about Komodo dragons
A. They're native to Indonesia. B. They're impatient hunters.
C. They're picky about food. D. They're really smelly.
15. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about
A. How Komodo dragons survive after being attacked.
B. How Komodo dragons' venom kills an animal.
C. How Komodo dragons hunt for food.
D. How Komodo dragons infect other animals.

书面表达Recently the topic of green travel has been widely debated which has aroused public attention.
In the past few decades, the increase of private cars has brought more and more serious air pollution and traffic jams , especially in the rush hour. As a consequence, it's high time to promote the green travel at present.
Our city government has taken leading roles to enhance public awareness of participation in green travel. Convenient public traffic system is developed with more underground and light rail lines under construction. Vehicles powered by electricity are encouraged to be put into use.
All in all, through green travel we can not only protect the environment by saving resources but also have a healthy life style.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
