Lisa and her dad were stuck in traffic. It seemed that it’s always the case. When he took her to school in the morning — traffic. When he picked her up in the afternoon — traffic. Go to the supermarket, a birthday party, and what felt like ten hours of traffic was what they got.
Lisa was bored. When she was bored, she wanted things. Right now, she wanted a mobile phone. She wasn’t sure if her dad understood that. She would have to tell him again.
“I WANT A MOBILE PHONE.”
“NO.”
“What if I got stuck in a cave ”
“What ” asked her dad, trying not to laugh.
“What if I had a dog and the dog ran away, and I had to run after it. What if the dog ran into a cave, and I ran after the dog In the cave there was a bear, and the bear trapped me, and …”
“And then you were stuck in the cave.”
“Yes. It’s a mother bear. She will eat me unless I have a mobile phone to call for help.”
“If it’s a mother bear, you can use her phone. Everyone knows mums always carry phones.” Dad was laughing as he said this. Lisa didn’t think it was very funny. Now she was angry. “If I had a mobile phone, I could play games on it!”
“If I had a boat, I could eat beef on it. That doesn’t mean I’m getting one.”
“No, but I mean if I could play games, I wouldn’t be so bored when we were in traffic. I wouldn’t trouble you!”
“I don’t mind being troubled. I like talking to you.”
“Then I won’t say anything at all!”
Dad smiled quietly to himself. “I’m going to call Mum to let her know we’ll be late.” He reached into his pocket. “Oh! My battery’s dead.”

David walked down the street. All he wanted to do was to play basketball with Jim. But his mother told him to return his sister's books to the library on his way to Jim's house.
In his eyes, books and summertime just don't go together. He thought he had read a lot during the school year. And he had never set foot inside a public library. Today he'd just drop the books off in the outside return box, but it was locked. He had to go inside to return them.
David walked inside the building a few minutes before closing time. He put the books into the return box. After a quick drink of water and a short stop in the toilet, he'd be on his way to meet Jim. He walked out of the toilet. The library lights were turned off. He was locked—in a library!
David tried to use the telephone, but he couldn't find one. As the sun began to set, he searched for a light and found a little one on a desk. He used a pencil to write a note on a big piece of paper. It read, “I'm locked inside. Please call for help.” He put it on the front door. Surely, someone passing by would see it. He then turned his attention to the library itself.
He was surprised to discover that this place was not so bad. Rows and rows of books! When he saw a book about Michael Jordan on the desk, he picked it up. He opened the book and began to read. He felt that being locked in the library didn't seem to be such a terrible thing.

If you bought some candy months ago but never ate it, how can you tell whether it's still eatable The easiest way is to check the use-by date printed on the cover. If that date has already passed, you're likely to throw the candy away. But is that really necessary According to a report, tons of food is wasted each year, largely because people don't fully understand what use-by dates actually mean and they think the food is not safe to eat.
Use-by dates were introduced in 1975 because customers wanted more information about the things that they were eating. When they first showed up, use-by dates only showed freshness because producers wanted their products to be tasted in their best conditions.
However, most customers mistakenly believed that use-by dates showed how safe the food was. But the truth is that these dates aren't related to the danger of food poisoning(中毒).Eggs, for example, can still be eaten three to five weeks after being bought, even though the use-by date is much earlier. When their use-by dates pass, cookies may lose their delicious taste, but they are not harmful.
“It's an unclear subject, the difference between food quality and food safety,” said Jena Roberts from a US food testing company. Even workers in the food factory are not sure about it. This is why the use-by dates must be printed on the covers of products. “We hope it can help customers understand the information so that they won't waste a lot of food.”
But this won't be a mistake that is easy to correct, because people have believed it for so long. As a result, food factory officials are now thinking about turning the use-by date into a date which can show when food is most likely to be thrown away.
41. What can we know from the first paragraph
A.Every year most factories produce too much food for people.
B.People throw away food because they think it is unsafe to eat.
C.It's necessary for people to throw away tons of food every year.

D.Energy:549 KJ 7% Protein:1.4 g 2% Fat:7.4 g 12%
44. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text
A.Food factory officials are planning to change use-by dates.
B.Most people care more about food freshness than food safety.
C.Eggs cannot be eaten three to five weeks after people buy them.

Chinese space exploration (探索) made great achievements in 2020, with the most significant event being the Chang’e 5 mission(任务), China Daily reported.
The Chang’e 5 was China s first sample (样本) return mission. It traveled in space for 23 days and brought back 1.7 kg of lunar (月球的) rock and soil samples to Earth. This was the world’s first lunar return mission since 1976 and made China the third country to complete a lunar return mission after the United States and the former Soviet Union.
The lunar samples have been sent to laboratories for research that will improve understanding of the state , temperature, and material content (物质含量) of the moon. Some of the samples will be put on display to encourage scientific interest. “This will greatly encourage people, especially young people, to study and explore the worlds beyond Earth,” Xiao Long, a planetary scientist said.
China also views the mission as part of mankind’s exploration of the moon as a whole.
The Chang’e 5 landing site was very deliberately (审慎地) chosen. The Mons Rumker site, which had never been sampled before, is geologically younger than the sampling areas of the US and Soviet missions. Scientists believe the new samples could help to understand the moon’s volcanic (火山的) activity and evolution (演变).
China has promised to share its samples with scientists from other countries. Some foreign scientists have shown interest. Lunar exploration is for the benefit (利益) of international scientific research. Mankind will explore the moon together, as large exploration projects will require international cooperation in the future. China will play a leadership role in the international scientific community, China Daily noted.
According to President Xi, the mission was also the latest achievement by China’s overall system, which is characterized by its ability to mobilize (调动) all available resources to deal with difficulties and achieve its goals. This will play a big role in future space missions.

A.What China’s future space missions will be like.
B.China’s ability to unite other countries.
C.The disadvantages of China’s system
D. The role China will play in future space exploration.
49.What can we infer from the passage
A.The United States will lead the international scientific community.
B.We can easily make achievements if we work together.
C.Chang’e 5 mission might encourage more people to study science.
