Procedure
Lead-in Free talk Do you like reading What kind of books do you like reading What kind of books do you think can be called great books
Step 1 Ask Ss to name great books and great writers.
Step 2 Present pictures of Confucius, William Shakespeare and Mark Twain. Introduce them one by one. Make Ss get familiar some new words.
Step 3 Activity 1. Listen and write down the name of each person.
Step 4 Activity 2. Listen again and complete the sentences.
Step 5 Listen for a third time and answer some questions.
Step 6 Activity 3. Listen, read and answer the questions.
Step 7 Activity 3. Read again and match the people with the descriptions.
Step 8 Ask Ss to read the conversation in two groups. Then act out the conversation.
Step 9 Everyday English Read and Everyday English and find out them in the dialogue. Let Ss think they are formal or informal.
Step 10 Choose one of the expressions in Everyday English and make a conversation.
Step 11 Pair work Talk about your favourite from the list. 1. two great plays2. two poems3. two wise thinkers 4. two important writers5. two great stories
