教材分析 This teaching period mainly deal with new words and reading. Read to learn what’s Wei Fen’s difficulties in learning English and how she overcomes it. To learn some words and expressions in the passage: expressions, discover, secret, fall in love, look up, be afraid to do sth.

Why did Wei Fen find it difficult to learn English find it difficult/hard to do sth. 发现做某事很困难 【find用法归纳】 find sb. doing sth. 发现某人做某事 find it + adj. + to do sth. 发现做某事很……find it + adj. to do sth.中的it是形式宾语, adj.做宾补, to do sth.是真正的宾语。同类的动词还有think, feel, consider等。【活学活用】1) I found it __________ (interest) to talk with my grandfather2) I found it hard for me ___________ (improve) spoken English.Answers: interesting, to improve2. The teacher spoke so quickly that I did not understand her most of the time. so ... that & so that so ... that“如此……以至于”，引导结果状语从句。so修饰形容词或副词。常见结构：① so+形容词 / 副词+that从句；② so+形容词+a(n)+单数可数名词+that从句。 such和so的区分so…that与such…that之间的转换既为 so与such之间的转换。so和such的区别是：
⑴ so修饰形容词或副词, such修饰名词。
e.g. My brother runs so fast that I can’t follow him. 我弟弟跑得那么快以至于我跟不上他。
　 He is such a boy. 他是一个这样的孩子。
⑵ so修饰的形容词后可以有一个单数的可数名词，其结构是“so+形容词 +a/an+可数名词单数”。 such可以修饰可数名词单复数和不可数名词，名词前可以有形容词作定语，其结构是“such+a/an+形容词+可数名词单数”，“such+形容词+可数名词复数/不可数名词”。e.g. He is so clever a boy. =He is such a clever boy. 他是一个如此聪明的孩子。
　 It is such cold weather. 这么冷的天气。 （正）
　 It is so cold weather.（误） They are such good students. （正）
　　They are so good students. （误）
⑶ 如果可数名词复数前有many，few或不可数名词前有much，little修饰， 用so不用such。 so many（如此多的），so few（如此少的）可以加可数名词复数 so much（如此多的），so little（如此少的）可以加不可数名词。 (4) 当little作“小的”讲，修饰名词时，其前面仍须用such, 而不用so。e.g. They are such little children that they can’t do anything. 这些孩子太小了，无法做任何事情。 巧记so和such的用法：名前such, 形，副so，多多少少也用so；little属特殊，“小”用such,“少”用so。 3. I want to learn new words and more grammar so that I can have a better understanding of English movies. so that “以便，为了” （从句中常用can, could，would，may等） e.g. She worked hard so that everything would be ready in time. 她努力工作，为的是及时做好各项准备。 I didn’t have lunch so that I would be hungry tonight. 我不吃午饭，为的就是让自己今晚能感到饥饿。 4. I was afraid to ask questions because of my poor pronunciation. afraid用作形容词，“害怕的；畏惧的”，在句中只能作表语。含afraid的常用结构有： be afraid of sb. / sth. “害怕某人 / 物”。 e.g. I’m afraid of my mother. Jane is afraid of dogs. be afraid of doing/to do sth. “害怕做某事”。e.g. Mona is afraid of walking / to walk alone at night.be afraid + that“恐怕… ”, 用于礼貌地表达可能令人不愉快的消息。回答别人的提问时，可用省略形式I’m afraid so (not)。afraid so（not）具体如下：(1) I’m afraid so. 意为“恐怕如此”。多用于 情景对话, 对别人的提问作出推测式回答。(2) I’m afraid not. 意为“恐怕不是”。【运用】根据汉语意思完成英语句子，每空词数不限。(1) 我和我的好朋友都害怕我们英语老师。Both my good friend and I ______________ our English teacher.(2) 我弟弟害怕坐飞机。My brother ______________________ the plane. Answers: are afraid of, is afraid of taking / to take5. I discovered that listening to something interesting is the secret to language learning. discover v. 发现; 发觉 指偶然或经过努力发现原来客观存在但不为人所知的事物。 e.g. Columbus discovered America in 1492. 哥伦布于1492年发现了美洲。 【辨析】 invent v. 发明通过劳动运用聪明才智“发明/创造”出以前从未存在过的新事物。e.g. Edison invented the electric light.6. I also learned useful sentences like “It’s a piece of cake” or “It serves you right.” a piece of cake和serves sb. right是英语中的两个习惯用语, 也可称作习语idiom(s)。同汉语中的成语类似, 习语是人们在长期的语言运用中约定俗成的一种固定表达方式, 其意思往往不是字面所表达的含义。如: a piece of cake表示事情非常简单、易于解决, 相当于汉语的“小菜一碟; 小事一桩”; serves sb. right则相当于汉语说某人“活该”。7. But because I wanted to understand the story, I looked them up in a dictionary. look up (在词典、参考书中或通过电脑)查阅时，其宾语可为名词(短语)或代词。当其宾语为名词(短语)时，该名词(短语)可位于up之后，也可位于look和up之间；当其宾语为代词时，该代词位于look和up之间。如： You can look up a new word / look a new word up in the dictionary. If you don’t know the word, you can look it up in the dictionary.【运用】根据汉语意思完成英语句子，每空词数不限。(1) 我在词典里查了这个单词的拼写。I ____________________________________________________________ in the dictionary.(2) 我不认识这些单词，你能帮我在网上查查吗？I don’t know these words.
