Procedure
Lead-in Review. Translate the phrases in Unit 1 into English.
Step 1 Free talk. Present some pictures and talk about Liu Xiang.
Step 2 Enjoy a video about Liu Xiang. Give some information about Liu Xiang.
Step 3 Ask Ss to say what they know about Liu Xiang and how he became a sports hero.Let Ss think what things it takes to be a successful athlete.
Step 4 Activity 2. Listen and read quickly and choose the sentence which best expresses the main idea.
Step 5 Ask Ss to read again and answer some questions.
Step 6 Work in pairs to complete Activity 3. Match the years with the notes to complete the timeline.
Step 7 Introduce Zhang Yining. Then ask Ss to write sentences about Zhang Yining's training.
Step 8 Writing Join the sentences they wrote to write a paragraph about Zhang Yining. Use and, although and because.
Step 9 Language points: explain the key words and phrases in Unit 2.
