■Warm up by getting to know about Australia.
Hello, class. Welcome to Module 7 Australia!
Australia is a country in the Southern Hemisphere, between the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean. Its official name is the Commonwealth of Australia. Australia is also a continent in the area of Australasia and Oceania.
■Listen and read.
On page 56 is a dialogue about Australia.
Before we act it out, let’s first read it. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。)

■ Act out the dialogue.
Next we are going to read aloud the dialogue to its recording and learn it by heart. Then we shall act it out in pairs. The best pair will be given photos I took in Australia last summer vacation. Now go ahead with your reading aloud.
■Talk as they do. (仿说)
■ Now in groups we shall try to talk as they do. We shall make use of the structure and expressions to say what we like to say.
■ Close up by talking about travel.

Unit 2 The camel that I rode had a bad temper.
■ Warm up by writing a short passage.
Hello, class. Before we read the letter on page 58, we shall first try to write something. We shall try to write a short passage with all the words that are listed in the top left corner of page 58.

I went to Dalian last Sunday and I stayed there for three days. To me Dalian is a really beautiful city with small hills and blue seas. The sky is so bright with no pollution. The coast is crowded with visitors form all over China. The field is so green and clean that it looks like a picture. I stayed at my relative’s for the night. In the daytime I went shopping in the streets and surfing at the sea. I bought some wine for my father made from grapes that are grown locally in Dalian. I had some wonderful Dalian dishes like sea fish and menzi, a typical local food. I asked for ham and lamb, too. But I was told they are not Dalian food. For no sheep are raised there. I felt hot one afternoon and I bought a drink locally made. But it made me feel funny. I think life in Dalian is different from the outback life in my place, but I like Dalian and its spirits.
■Read the passage and answer the questions.
On page 58 is a letter by Tony to his parents about Australia. Now start reading it. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。)

■ Put the text into a dialogue.
After reading comes speaking. Then what are we to speak about We are to speak about Australia. We shall be Dad and Tony. They are talking about Australia over the phone.
■ Close down by writing a letter of your own.
To end this period try to write a letter of your own. You may write as Tony writes, making use of the same structures and the same expressions.
Dear Mum and Dad,I'm writing this letter to you from the centre of Shanxi. At the moment we're staying near Wutai Shan——that’s the name for a famous mountain with five tops. ■Warm up by doing language practice
On page 60 at the top there are three sentences with attributive clauses. Now read them and make a study of their structures.

Make similar sentences of your own.
The student that I taught had a bad temper.The books that they love the most are in English.There were monkeys that were jumping alongside the car on our way back from Shennonjia.
The bike that I rode had a bad smell.The films that they love the most are Heroes in Sky and Taihang Shan.There were boys and girls that were jumping alongside the car on our way back from the Yellow River.
■ Read and underline.
On page 60 there is a short passage. Read it and underline all the examples of that clause.
■Turn the passage into a conversation.
Now read the short passage on page 60 again. Then in groups of four try to turn it into a conversation and act it out.
■Read Around the world
Turn to page 63. Let’s go on to read Cathy Freeman: An Australian and Aboriginal hero.
