Using a story map to plan a story
You’re going to rewrite the story of ‘Rapunzel’.
First, change the prince into another character, for example, a hunter or a soldier.

You’ve chosen the hunter. Now you need to change the events in the story.
You can use a story map to help you plan the new story.
Do you still remember the three sections of a story: beginning, middle and ending
Let’s rewrite the beginning of the story now.
Remember to change the prince into the hunter.
Rapunzel and the Prince
Beginning Setting (time and place) and characters Setting: once upon a time, in a tall tower
Characters: Rapunzel and the prince
Characters: Rapunzel and the hunter

Now change the events in the middle of the story.
Look at the hunter. Think of two problems with his habits.

teeth are clean,’ said Rapunzel.

Add extra dialogue to make your ending more interesting.
Great! Now you can write the new story. Put the sentences into paragraphs.

Once upon a time a witch put a beautiful girl in a tall tower. Her name was Rapunzel. One day Rapunzel saw a hunter and shook her long hair out of the window. The hunter climbed up her hair.
You can add details to make your story clearer.
‘I’m here to rescue you,’ smiled the hunter. ‘Oh! Your teeth are bad and dirty. How often do you brush your teeth ’ asked Rapunzel.
The hunter was surprised. ‘Twice a week,’ he replied.

‘OK. I’m going to brush my teeth twice a day. Then my teeth will be nice and clean in a week’s time,’ said the hunter.
The next week the hunter climbed up Rapunzel’s hair again. He walked towards Rapunzel. ‘Ugh! Your feet smell awful. How often do you wash your feet ’ asked Rapunzel.
‘Once a month,’ said the hunter.
‘You ought to wash your feet once a day …’ started Rapunzel.
