Microplastics (微塑料) are pieces of plastics smaller than 5 mm. They have entered every part of the planet today. German scientists have even found them in Arctic (北极) snow.
Scientists found 1, 800 pieces of microplastics per liter(公升) of snow. They have been wondering how this pollution makes its way to the Arctic. A new study finds that microplastics in the snow come from the air. They fall off and are moved by the wind. They mix with ice in the air and fall in the Arctic as snow.
Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in. We have found a number of microplastics in the snow around cities.
Are they bad for us Scientists can’t answer this question for now according to the World Health Organization. We know that our bodies can’t take in large pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time. It can be bad for our health. It can even contribute to the lung cancer (肺癌).
We have also found microplastics in rivers and oceans around the world. The research has found that they have a long way and run into oceans, doing harm to our environment along the way. They start in our waste water when we wash clothes with plastic fibers (纤维).The waste water then runs into rivers and out to sea. Sea animals can eat them. If people eat these animals, it means that we’re eating the plastics, too.
36.What have German scientists discovered about the Arctic
A.They have found different kinds of liter there.
B.Microplastics have caused pollution there.
C.It can be the last clean place left on the Earth.
D.They have found 1, 800 pieces of microplastics there.
37.What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us
A.Where the microplastics come from. B.What the Arctic snow is like.
C.How to cut down on Arctic’s microplastics. D.How dangerous microplastics are.
38.The underlined phrase “contribute to” in Paragraph 4 means “________” in Chinese.
A.增加 B.捐献 C.导致 D.影响
39.What can we learn from the passage
A.Microplastics are a main cause of lung cancer.
B.Microplastics are mainly found in rivers and oceans.
C.Microplastics can be bad for the environment and our health.
D.Sea animals are in danger now because of plastic pollution.
40.The writer wrote the passage mainly to tell us ________.
A.not to travel to the Arctic B.not to eat sea animals
C.to care more about our health D.to use fewer plastic objects
When you think of the Arctic (北极), you imagine an icy land of pure white snow. Others imagine it as the last really clean place left on earth. We have polluted the deepest oceans with plastic rubbish. “And now”, CNN says, “It’s the Arctic’s turn.”
German scientists have recently found microplastics in Arctic snow. Microplastics are pieces of plastic smaller than 5 millimeters. Sadly, the scientists found 1800 pieces of microplastics per liter of (每升) snow.
How is plastic pollution reaching the Arctic According to scientists, “It’s clear that most of the microplastics in the snow come from the air.” They fall off the plastic objects and are moved by the wind, just like dust. They mix with ice in the air and fall to the ground as snow. Finding these plastics in Arctic snow means that we may breathe them in.
Are they bad for us Scientists cannot answer this question for now, according to the WHO. We do know that our bodies cannot take in “large” pieces of microplastics. However, if the plastics are small enough, they can find ways into our bodies and stay there for a long time, which can be bad for our health. What’s more, earlier studies have shown that microplastics may contribute to lung cancer risk.
Microplastics have also been found in rivers and oceans around the world. Earlier research has found that they flow over long distances and into our oceans, hurting ecosystems along the way. They start in our wastewater, then flow into rivers and out to the sea, where they are eaten by sea animals. If people then eat these animals, it means that we’re eating the plastic as well.
41.We can learn from Paragraph 1 that________.
A.the Arctic is the last really clean place left on earth
B.the Arctic is an icy land of pure white snow

B.Microplastics may cause lung cancer.
C.We don’t have to mind microplastics right now.

B.By asking people not to eat sea animals.

71. 参考范文
Pollution is more and more serious. There are many reasons for it. For one reason, more and more factories are built and some of them put dirty water into the rivers without cleaning it. And most people are richer than before. So more and more people have cars. They send out harmful gases, and some people throw rubbish everywhere.
To protect our environment. We have to take action now. First, factories must make the water clean before they put it into the rivers. Second, we had better take buses more often instead of cars. Last but not least, we should put rubbish into dustbins.
Let’s try our best to protect our environment.
