From my point of view, the quotation indicates that the importance of food to people is comparable to the importance of people to their countries. People cannot live without food and a country cannot exist without its people.

I think it will talk about the food we grow up eating, made by a special family member, or the food that reminds us of happy times in our lives. It helps us feel relaxed and comfortable.
(2)What foods can have an impact on your feelings
Foods that I eat may impact my feelings in a positive or negative way. Dumplings cheer me up because they remind me of the time when I was younger and helped my grandmother make them. Eating certain foods also brings me mixed feelings. For instance, when I want to relax, especially while studying, I often eat sweet soft cakes; however, it sometimes makes me feel guilty because I know cakes are unhealthy.

4. 教师活动:教师指导学生完成第4页A3的活动。
(1)How does the author introduce the topic of comfort food What do you think of this technique
The author introduces the topic with a personal experience from her childhood that illustrates the power comfort food has to lift our spirits, before continuing with a more detailed description of exactly how comfort food does that. This technique is quite effective, as it attracts the reader’s attention and inspires interest in the topic of discussion.
(2)What foods can remind you of your happy memories Describe the memories they recall.
For me, childhood is inseparably connected with the taste of tanghulu, a snack of sugar-coated hawthorn berries on a bamboo stick. My dad used to bring me all sorts of snacks when he came back home from work, but tanghulu is by far my favourite. Even now, the mere taste of this treat recalls the warmth of his bear hugs. Whenever I miss home, I treat myself to a stick of tanghulu. It's my secret cure for homesickness and it works every time.
(3)In your opinion, is there any difference between one's comfort food and favourite food Give your reasons.
I think people's favourite food and comfort food are different in two ways. First, people's favourite food can come and go, while their comfort food often remains the same. Second, people's favourite food often connects with satisfying their hunger, while comfort food usually connects with memories from their childhood.
5.教师活动:教师让学生组成小组讨论如何理解文章尾端“It’s food for the soul.”这句话。
How can you understand the sentence
We usually associate food with something our bodies need—it relieves our hunger and satisfies our appetite. However, comfort food not only serves that purpose, but also makes us feel comfortable mentally and emotionally. Since comfort food is closely connected with positive personal experiences and happy memories, eating it can lift one’s spirits. Therefore, comfort food is considered to be food for the soul.
6.学生活动:用60词总结文章主要内容,并在课堂上口语表述。
参考答案:Comfort food, in a broad sense, refers to any food that makes people feel better when they are unwell or in low spirits. This passage is about one specific type of comfort food. Such type of food is highly individual and brings happiness and sense of belonging to people, especially to those who move away from their home country.
三、After-reading
1. 教师活动:Have students finish B1 on page 5.

2. 教师活动:让学生思考并讨论如下问题:
There is an English saying, “People are what they eat.” What’s your understanding of the saying
参考答案:The food we eat impacts our health directly. If we eat healthy food, we will be healthy, and we will be unhealthy if we constantly eat processed foods like junk food. Our food choices are often reflected in how we look too—our skin may not be clear or we may become overweight, so eating freshly prepared local and seasonal foods are better for keeping us healthy and looking good.
四、Summary
