Learning Objectives: By the end of the class, students will be able to 1. comprehend the text by using some reading strategies;2. write about the problems and solutions for the exchange students;3. know to respect others’ culture and custom.
Procedures Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Purposes
Step 1:Warming-up Have students think about what an educational exchange is . Students try to think about the question. Lead in the topic and make the students’ clear about the topic.
Step 2:Pre-reading Ask students to skim the picture, the introduction, and the title and answer 4 questions. Students skim the picture, the introduction, and the title and answer 4 questions. Have students know the background information of the text.
Step 3:While-reading scan and matchAsk students to scan the whole passage and find out some useful expressions, learn them by doing a matching exercise. 2. listen and readAsk students to have detailed reading of the article by filling a table. 3. Read and thinkAsk students to have autonomous learning and then find information behind the lines &beyond the lines 1. Students scan the passage to find useful expressions.2. Students read the whole article and fill in the table in pairs.3. Students work in groups to think about the questions behind the lines & they are encouraged to raise more questions between the lines. 1. Help students to understand the main idea of the topic.2. Encourage students to analyze the structure of the article and find useful expressions.3. Encourage students to cooperate with each and have autonomous learning.
Step 4:Post-reading 1.Think and watch Ask students to think about the problems that the exchange students may meet and watch a video to write about the problems the students met and give solutions in groups and share with others.2.Evaluate and adviseAsk students to discuss in groups to evaluate the solutions and give advice on the problems 1.Students work in groups to talk about the problems that the exchange students may meet and the problems the students in the video mentioned. 2.Write down the commonest problems and solutions, then share. Encourage students to imagine the life in another country and share their ideas with others.Encourage students to put what they have learned into practice.Encourage students to develop their ability of imagining and cooperating.
Step 5:Self-assessment Lead students to make a self-assessment. Students self-reflect what they have learnt in today’s class. Review what they have learnt today and summarize the class.
Step 6:Homework 1. Write down the possible problems, solutions and post them to the students in Beijing.2. Do some online reading exercises about educational exchanges.
