Teaching objectives
1. Knowledge objectives
a. Students can express the development of counting methods with linking words.
b. use proper expression of numbers to describe certain situation and then add some linking words to make a short story.
Teaching key points
Enable students to use some linking words to express the development of something.
Teaching difficult points
Help students think of some occasions where we use numbers and then express them correctly.
Teaching procedure
Step 1. Warming-up
Teachers show some pictures and then ask students what these pictures refer to.
Step 2. Lead-in
Brainstorming: If there are no written numbers, how can we count things
Step 3. Pre-reading
a. predicting: present some pictures and let students guess the order of their occurring time.
b. skimming: students skim the passage and them choose the main idea of the passage.
c. scanning: students scan the article and then complete the flow chart about the development of counting methods.
Step 5. While-writing
Intensive reading: students read the article carefully and get more details of each counting methods.
Step 6. Post-writing
a. retell the text based on some information.
b. discuss some examples of different numbers in our daily life.
c. creative story-making: choose some of the examples mentioned above to make a short story.
Step 7. Homework
Ask students to think of more occasions where we use numbers and then try to make a short story with them.
