Analysis of Teaching Contents This module is based on the topic of “Leisure time”. In this unit, it introduces television programmes and the entertainment industry. In the listening part, it is a conversation between Denise and Angela who are willing to find specific places in the TV station. Speaking A is a conversation about how to express praise and encouragement. Speaking B is a survey about TV viewing habits.
Analysis of Students Students of Grade 9 have certain vocabulary and listening skills. They also have the abilities of self-teaching and self-assessment. Most of them are willing to express their opinions.

Step2 Knowledge acquisition (Pre-listening) 1) Show a video clip which contains three scenes of asking and giving directions. 2) Summarize the sentence structure of asking for directions based on the video clip. 3) Introduce some useful expressions of giving directions. 4) Display some signs and pictures related to directions and locations. Watch the video and concentrate on some useful information. Learn the words, expressions and sentence structure in target language. Students know more knowledge about directions and locations. Ss can have a general impression of how to ask for and give directions. Ss will learn some target words and sentence structures. 3) Ss may gain more knowledge about directions and locations. 4) Ss can get the scaffolding before listening.
Step3 Presentation& Practice (While-listening) Listening (Textbook 9AU5 P70) 1) Get students to know the meaning of the different symbols in the floor plan and encourage students to make the prediction. 2) Ask Ss listen to the recording and number the places according to the order. 3) Play the recording again and ask students to fill in the blank. 4) Explain the routes to these target places with the help of moving pictures 5) Guide students to check the answers. Observe the floor plan and predict the context. Listen to the recording and fill in the blanks in correct order. Listen again and write down the answers. Pay attention to the routes, listen to the explanation and take notes. Step4 Production (Post-listening) 1.Invite students fill in the gap according to locations in pictures 2.Present students a map of street view in Shenzhen and ask students to give directions. 1.Finish the task based on the pictures. 2. Step5 Extension Activity (Speaking) A Talk time (Textbook 9AU5 P74) 1) Show a vlog which is about a conversation between two students and ask students to find out the sentence about praise and encouragement in the dialogue. 2) Ask students to read after the recording and focus on the words in blue. 3)Summarize more sentences about praise and encouragement such as: ·Nice going! ·You did a good job! · Don’t give up! B Speak up (Textbook 9AU5 P75) Show students an online interview about their TV viewing habits and ask the following questions: ①How many hours do you spend watching TV every week ②When do you usually watch TV ③What kind of TV programmes do you like ④Do you like watching TV Why or why not Ask students to report survey results based on the interview. Present Simon’s report of the survey results as an example and lead students to learn from it. Watch the video and try to find out the sentences about praise and encouragement Read the dialogue and pay attention to the words in blue 3) Learn more sentences about praise and encouragement.
