Analysis of Teaching Contents This module is based on the topic of “Leisure time” and in this unit, it introduces television programmes and the entertainment industry. The more practice is an interview about two students’ visit to the Film Park. It introduces their favourite things about the Film Park tour. Besides, one of the students, Roddy, also talked about his experience of being an actor in a film. The article includes rich character language and detailed description of exciting experiences, so it has great reference value and fun for students to read. The culture corner is an introduction about some famous international film festivals at home and abroad. The students must have great interest in learning about international film festivals. This topic is quite close to students’ real life and it must be familiar and attractive for the students to learn more about the international film festivals.
Analysis of Students The students are from Grade 9. They have learned English for almost nine years. They have a certain ability to read an interview by using some common reading strategies such as skimming and scanning. They also have strong interest in films and international film festivals. However, some of the students are slow learners in English who need to be taught how to guess the meanings of some new words especially the idioms in the interview.
Teaching Objectives

Learning Procedures

Learning objectives (1 min) Let Ss know what they can learn in this lesson. Be aware of the language and ability goals they should achieve at the end of the lesson. Let Ss know their learning objectives and make joint efforts with the teacher to achieve the objectives.
Lead in (1 min) Show two pictures of two students Julia and Roddy. Introduce them to the students. Look at the pictures of two students and know who they are. Let Ss get familiar with the two characters.
Warming-up (3 mins) Introduce the Film Park by showing some pictures to review some words in the previous class and learn new words. Look at the pictures and learn the words in the pictures Let Ss learn the new words by looking at the pictures and reading after the teacher, and have a basic understanding of the Film Park.
Pre-reading (1 mins) Ask Ss to look at the instruction and the title of the article, then answer the questions. Answer the questions raised by the teacher. Let Ss have a preliminary understanding of the passage.
While-reading (8mins) Let Ss read the reporter’s questions quickly and divide the passage into two parts. ( Part I: para.1-5 ; Part II: para.6-11) Guide Ss to do detailed-reading based on the content of the passage. Task1: Read the first 5 paragraphs after the recording and finish the diagram. Task2: Read paragraph 4&5 and complete the table below. Task3: Read the rest of the passage & decide whether the sentences are true or false. Task4:Read and guess the meanings of the underlined phrases. Task5 : Watch a video about common idioms and try to remember the meanings of the idioms. Match the idioms in column A with their correct meanings in column B. Read the reporter’s questions and divide the passage into two parts. Read the passage carefully and finish five tasks. Task1:Read the first 5 paragraphs after the recording and finish the diagram. Task2. Read paragraph 4&5 and complete the table below. Task3: Read the rest of the passage & decide whether the sentences are true or false. Task 4: Read and guess the meanings of the underlined phrases. Task5: Watch a video about common idioms and do the matching. Help Ss to understand the structure of the interview. Guide Ss to get more detailed information about the interview.
Post-reading (5min) Guide the Ss to help the reporter to write an article about Julia and Roddy’s trip to the Film Park. Give an example of the article. Write an article about Julia and Roddy’s trip to the Film Park within 5 mins and share with their classmates. Let the Ss summarize the whole passage in their own words.
Culture corner (5min) Ask Ss to watch a video about the history of Cannes Film Festival. Introduce famous international film festivals in the world and in China. Ask students to think about some great movies in China and what good movies tell us. Encourage the students to learn from good movies and find their own interest and work hard for it. Watch a video about the history of Cannes Film Festival. Learn about the three most famous film festivals around the world. 3. Learn about the Shanghai International Film Festival, the China Golden Rooster& Hundred Flowers Film Festival and also the three major film awards in China. 4.Think about some great movies in China and what good movies tell us. Let the students learn about some famous international film festivals in China and abroad. Arouse Ss interest in films and film festivals. Help them realize the value of good movies and find their interest and work for it.
Homework (1min) 1. Use three idioms you have learnt in this class to make five sentences. 2. Surf the Internet( e.g.https://cn./), find more information about some other film festivals and make a poster on your favourite one. Ss finish the homework based on the instructions. Ss can further understand the idioms and international film festivals.
