When people say “culture”, we think of art and history. But one very famous symbol in American culture is a cartoon. We all know and love the black mouse with two large round ears---Mickey Mouse. Over 80 years ago, he first appeared in the cartoon Steamboat Willie. When this cartoon came out in New York on November 18,1928, it was the first cartoon with sound and music. The man behind Mickey was Walt Disney. He became very rich and successful. In the 1930s, he made 87 cartoons with Mickey.

like a common man, but the always tried to face any danger. In his early films, Mickey was unlucky and had many problems such as losing his house or girlfriend, Minnie. However, he was always ready to try his best. People went to the cinema to see the “little man” win. Most of them wanted to be like Mickey.

1929～1933年美国历史上空前严重的经济危机，又称“大萧条”、“大危机”。1929年10月24日纽约股票行情暴跌，危机开始。美国经济迅速崩溃。工业锐减53.8%，进出口锐减68%，14万家企业破产，6000家银行倒闭，1320万人失业。危机波及整个资本主义世界，使其工业生产总产值下降36%，世界贸易缩减2/3。为应付危机，1933年罗斯福总统实行“新政”，由国家干预经济，危机有所缓解。
Many people lost jobs, they didn't have money to live. Some of them even lost their houses, they didn't have places to live in. Under the stress, people were just struggling with live. So in Walt Disney's early films, we found that Mickey was unlucy and he had many problems such as losing his house or girlfriend. Mickey, to some extent, stands for people who lost jobs or houses in the period of the Great Depression. But Mickey never gave up and was always ready to try his best. In the end, he became very successful. His adorable appearance attracted people's attention and his spirit encouraged them to keep on moving.
